The all-night launch party is finally over and boy oh boy does Rock Band have one killer headache. Turns out that Harmonix must have spent a little too much time living the rock star lifestyle while creating Rock Band and not enough time manufacturing and testing.
According to several reports across the country, most Best Buys were shipped very few (usually only 1 or 2 bundles, if any) of the highly anticipated Guitar-Hero-Killer. The bundles are in such short supply that even Best Buy employees were told they won’t be allowed to purchase a bundle for themselves until January 08. But there’s more…
There’s even more bad news for the PS3 owners (like usual). Apparently the Guitar Hero III guitars, that were promised by Harmonix to be compatible with Rock Band, aren’t compatible. The really weird thing is people have reported that you can navigate the menu with the controllers, but as soon as you start up a song, they just stop functioning. This wouldn’t be such a huge deal except that the Rock Band bundle only comes with one guitar so if you want the full 4 player band experience you either have to use the Guitar Hero III guitar (which doesn’t work) or go buy a whole ‘nother Rock Band bundle (which is almost impossible to find). Harmonix has promised an update soon so hopefully the PS3 owners won’t have to suffer for long.
Here’s what I don’t get. I just finished beating the lead guitar career mode last night on Medium (don’t judge me, that damn orange fret F’s my world up) and was sitting through the 15 minutes of credits (not exaggerating at all) and I noticed that they had at least 20 testers working on the game. Are you trying to tell me that among all 20 of those testers NONE of them attempted to play the game with the guitar from the PS3 version of Guitar Hero III? Ya know, just to TEST it’s compatibility since they are TESTERS!
All bugs and yelling aside, I highly suggest this game to anyone who likes the Guitar Hero games, has $170 to blow, and three friends that live nearby (you can’t play co-op career mode online).
