The reviews are in for Crysis, and for once all the hype we’ve endured over the last 6 months actually stands up. 100 out of 100! 98 and 95 out of 100! Forget using the term “next-gen,” this title is already sitting comfortably in the “next next-gen” category.

An EA published game no less.

I should have played the lottery since the laws of nature have obviously been broken. This game looks so good, another “let’s take a break” fiasco may be in the works between my lady friend and me so I can get some gaming done.

Enough blatant Crytek love, let’s hear what the reviewer community had to say:

Metacritic posted a 93 out of 100 rating. GameTap gave it a solid 100 out of 100 using the line “love letter for military combat.” PC Gamer gave it a solid 98 out of 100 calling it a “technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year.”

Gamespot & GamePro both gave it a 95 out of 100. Jason Ocampo (from GameSpot) practically asks Crysis to marry him during his video review. IGN is only one point behind, giving Crysis a solid 94.

You’d think this game was called “Angelina Jolie” it’s getting so much love.

Lest you think it’s all sunshine and lollipops for Crysis, 1Up stands alone giving Crysis a mediocre 80 out of 100. Umm ok, why is that? Here’s a snippet of their review:

“Fast forward through scraps of miserable story and melodramatic dialogue, along with a “boss battle” inherited from the coin-op class of ‘88 (see: “Contra”), and the ordeal is done — beautiful throughout, mostly amazing, but vegetative by the end.”

If you discount 1Up’s rather odd review, the main reasons Crysis did not score 100’s across the board is the outrageous system requirements and lack of team death match in multi-player. Neither of those criticisms are very noteworthy compared to everything else this Sci-Fi FPS has to offer. Especially when you consider multi-player improvements like team death match will more than likely come in the form of a post release update.

COD4 is getting some play time, but even that great title is getting shelved when Crysis hits stores. The 16th just can’t get here fast enough.

“Baby, it’s not you, it’s me. I met someone new…his name is Nomad”.

Stay tuned for more Crysis news from yours truly next week.
