So, you own Call of Duty 4 and you’ve beaten the single player campaign on every difficulty level possible. What’s Next? How bout multiplayer? The Call of Duty Multiplayer experience is one of the most full featured offerings on any system.
On the other hand, the endless features in Multiplayer can be a little daunting for first time users. It can also be frustrating to start off with a limited selection of weapons as you face off against veteran players with tricked out guns that have been refined over hours of playing.
For the casual fan, or the newly initiated, here’s my simple guide through the first couple of ranks in Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer that will hopefully raise your game and keep you coming back for more.

1. Starting out – Beginning at level one in this game is difficult. Even the most experienced of players will struggle a bit with the limited selection of weapons offered. Be aware that while you may not be able to select your own perks, the custom classes do offer perks, so you will be able to keep up with the rest of the players… to an extent.
2. Class Selection – The biggest problem you’ll face is class selection. My advice is to go for the Special Ops, which uses the submachine gun, MP5. It has a great iron sight and has better than average accuracy from medium to short range. This weapon can be effective on any map in the rotation and can dominate in the right hands.
Don’t choose the M16. The limited vision on the iron sights and burst rate of fire can make a newbie’s life very difficult. While the burst fire has great power, that power must come with accuracy, which most first time players may not have right off the bat. If you absolutely do not want to play with the MP5, I recommend the light machine gun known as the SAW. The extreme fire rate and better than average iron sights makes this a great weapon for the spray and pray crowd. Its bullet penetration power is also much higher than theMP5, which is great for medium range shoot-outs where your opponent is hiding behind a wall that you can simply blast through.
