According to Famitsu, (a popular gaming magazine in Japan) the new WiiWare port of Bandai Namco’s Mojipittan (a popular game in Japan) will give players the option of downloading new levels and themes…for a fee.

NOOOOOOO! Not you too, Nintendo!

I know this may not seem like it will affect you since it’s taking place in Japan, but trust me, this just opened the floodgates from Hell for all titles on the Wii. Apparently Nintendo wasn’t satisfied with raking in all that money in from the blatantly overpriced 10+ year old WiiWare games, so they’ve taken a page from Xbox’s “nickel and dime ‘em to death” playbook.

I’ve already used my Yoda-like Jedi powers to look into the future and I can tell you now, this is not going to end well.

Want that new Super Mario Galaxy add-on that lets you play as Princess Peach? Two dollars, please. Want that new fighting level for Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Five dollars, please. Want the new TV Program Schedule Channel? Ten dolla…oh wait, never mind, nobody wants that even if it were free.

As long as it’s actual aftermarket stuff, I don’t care that much. Namco crossed the line with Beautiful Katamari and the fake DLC, though. I love Katamari, but I will never buy that game. Paying to unlock content already existing on a disc you already purchased is just criminal.
