Fighting games may be down, but they’re not out. Virtua Fighter 5 for the Xbox 360 is still in the ring and it’s kicking some serious ass.
This is a perfect example of what makes a good fighting game great. The problem is, most people are turned off or “just aren’t into” them anymore. Most players find long lists of moves and techniques intimidating, or just too frustrating to learn.
VF5 could change your mind, but you have to give it a chance.
Read my reasons you might like it after the break!
This past weekend, Mrs. Supa’s brother came to visit, (JCK42 on the forums) and we had a blast kicking the crap out of each other. (He wupped me pretty good actually.) We’re both fighter fans, however it made me realize that anyone can enjoy it as much as we did, once you get past the stigmas.
So, if you have a little patience, and follow my simple Newbie Guide rules, there’s a good chance you’ll see why Virtua Fighter 5 can be loads of fun.
- Play With A Friend. – This is truly where this game shines. The best part about the 360 version is the online play. The trouble is, if you jump online to play with a stranger, you’re likely to get schooled by someone who’s way better than you. Instead, grab someone you actually know to either sit with you (warning: actual real world friends required) or find a good online buddy, who’s willing to at least rent the game. If you both are new, neither of you will be intimidated.
- Guard! Guard! Guard! – This is the backbone of enjoying the game. People generally get frustrated with fighting games because they’re beaten so easily. The biggest reason this happens is because they never block! One you start learning to block, and counter attack, everything else will seem much easier.
