The huge explosion of online communities in the last decade has really changed the social dynamic of romance. More and more people seem to be finding that “special someone” while online. While the line “we met online” still holds a certain amount of stigma, the sheer number of people using online services out right guarantees someone is gonna make a lasting connection.

But Halo? An MMO I could sort of understand, with the sheer hours and friendship related gaming that goes into playing, it only makes sense that a romance could blossom. Halo is a whole different beast though. I guess instead of reciting poetry or making a mix tape for your special someone, you can head shot them at long range and trash talk to show your love. Nothing says “I love you” like an energy sword attack from behind while being called a beeyatch.
Recently a Halo 3 gamer named “Moviesign” made a Forge map wherein he spelled out “Marry Me?” with weapons strategically placed on the ground. Furtive Penguin, now his fiancee, discovered the message and said yes. Good for you both.
Sheesh, if I had known that gaming could actually get you dates I would have stopped going out on the town years ago. The small XBL monthly fee’s are a much more cost effective way to find that special someone vs. the high cost of a nice dinner and a movie.
Best of all: your love will be unfettered by cries of “all you do is play video games,” and “baby spend time with me!” that plagues those of us unlucky enough to have found love in the real world.
