I don’t think there is a young person anywhere in North America who hasn’t watched the Ghostbuster films to infinity and beyond. With good reason; they stand out as two of the best sci-fi comedies ever.
It was only a matter of time before a developer nabbed the license and brought the franchise into the newest generation of gaming platforms. On November 16th Sierra officially announced that “GhostBusters: The Video Game” will be released for the 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, DS, and PC in fall 2008. Get ready for a whole new generation of “stream crossing” and “ghost trapping” action!
Find out more after the break!
After my initial elation, I quickly began to feel trepidation at this newest movie to video game endeavor. The craptacular reputation of video game movies is so pronounced these days, Ghostbusters is going to need some serious help to break free. Luckily both Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis (Dr. Ray Stantz and Dr. Egon Spengler respectively) will once again be putting on their writing caps (they wrote both films) for this newest addition to the GB franchise.
Add to that, the in game talent of Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray, and William Atherton; all of whom will reprise their GB roles for this new title.
Ok, so the talent and script are looking good. Who is actually gonna make this omg-please-don’t-let-this-game-suck title? Well Sierra is going to be the publisher with Terminal Reality handling development for the 360, PS3, and PC. Red Fly Studios will cover the other platforms.
That seems to be the biggest cause for woe; two no-name companies who have no big hits to date. Hardly hope-inspiring to say the least. On the other hand, with the heavy involvement of the original GB cast and crew, we can at least hope for a fun, if not, record breaking show-stopper.
Personally, as long as Slimer is in the game, I’m gonna buy it!
