Rumors were flying around the Sarcastic Gamer HQ yesterday, pointing to the possibility of EA selling off it’s longstanding Madden football franchise.
The juicy details, after the jump!
For those that may not know, John Madden football has been around for …. well, forever and to hear this news, is shocking! Recent financial reports been kind to EA, so we went straight to the source for answers: John Madden himself.
Mr. Madden had this to say about the rumor, “Well with Brett Farve retiring, I don’t know why people would want to play a football videogame anyway. Boom! Hey, you wanna Turkey leg?”
After that riveting interview, I was able to finally track down the EA marketing vp, Josh Bettham who said, “Making football videogames is hard. I mean, we try to put new rosters in every year, but other than that, we just don’t know what to do. I mean, we’ve already given up on boxing [Fight Night] why not just give up on this too?”
With all of that manpower freed up from the Madden franchise, Bettham told us that they plan on focusing on EA’s lifeblood: World War II first person shooters. Bettham said, “I just can’t get enough Medal of Honor, can you?”
At that point, I threw up a little in my mouth and had to cut the interview short.
I did learn, before ending the interveiw, that the Madden team has been broken up and was placed with the development studios for the 17 different World War II shooters that were still in development for EA. Look for 17 new and different World War II shooters in Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 of 2008 and also in Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 of 2009!
Also, keep an eye out for John Madden … eating…
