So you might’ve heard about Sony refusing to repair a guy’s PS3 because it was “too dusty” and posed a hazard to their repair technicians, right? And you might have thought that sounded extremely lame, right? Well, we’re not quite to the Paul Harvey moment (man I just dated myself there), but here’s some more of the story…
It turns out that the guy that sent in the “dusty” PS3 is a professional actor. One that gets paid to act. His IMDB page tells how he’s played such memorable parts as “Dude #2″ in Ten Inch Hero (I’m hoping that’s not an adult film) and the ever impressive “Kid” in one episode of Jericho. My favorite was his uncredited portrayal of “Drunk Boy” in Van Wilder. That’s some top notch stuff.
Now we see that Fox News is running a segment interviewing Reid Godshaw and someone from The Consumerist website. Fox News, paid actor, someone that makes it their mission to “stick it to the man”. I can’t possibly see how anything bad can happen…
During the course of the interview, you learn that Reid received the $600 PS3 as a gift. And when it “quit working” he sent it back to Sony for repair. Look at the picture below and think about this for a minute. He received a $600 gift, and kept shoving discs into it in that condition. Okay, ignore for a minute that it’s that bad. If you were calling in to get a warranty repair, why in God’s name wouldn’t you take the 90 seconds to wipe the thing down with a rag and hit it with a can of compressed air (not in that order, obviously)?! Any sane person would want to make sure they left no room for Sony to say “Hey, you didn’t take care of this thing, that’s why it broke! Our warranties are to replace defective material or workmanship, not clean dead gerbils out of your cooling system and optical drive!”
So my theories have been narrowed down to: The guy’s a clueless idiot that lives inside a Dyson vacuum, or he’s an attention seeking out of work “Dude #2″ level actor wanting to get noticed. Seriously. Look at that picture. I’ve never had electronics anywhere near that dusty. At some point, there is a line between reasonable use and abuse. On paper (and in headlines and sound bites) it sounds like Sony is really shafting this guy. Go watch that video, take a look at that photo, and tell me what YOU think. Do you think regardless of what the guy did, in Sony’s current situation they should bow to anything and repair a clearly abused box?

No, and screw that guy. This dude is clearly going after a company that takes hits from all angles from the media, this is just as you might say, “Another brick in the wall.”

Come on, with all that money he must get for portraying “Dude #2?” There’s a high demand for actors with the rare ability to portray complicated characters such as “Kid” ad “Punk #1″ or in some cases gay porno. It’s only $150, just pay the damn fee! I mean, you should have prepared for this since the day you read the label “Sony” on the box!

Exactly it said “sony” not X-box 360

Well, he either loved his PS3 way too much or he actually tried to get it dusty…it can’t be both right?

There is no way anybody would let a ps3 get in that state unless they wanted it like that.
It looks like its been dragged around a mudpool.
And no sony should not repair a console like that if you let a ps3 get into such a poor state then thats the console owners fault and they should pay the repair fees.
