For those of you that haven’t played Call Of Duty 4, the multiplayer is amazing. Good for hours of gun fire fun, though it’s not without faults.
Infinity Ward has recognized some of the problems with the COD4 online play and they have decided to create a patch to fix some of them and drop in a few new features as well. How much better can it get you may ask? (See the full article at our sister site Achievement Junkie)
What it will do:
Additions / New Features:
- Added Kill cam to Airstrike bombs and Claymores
- Addition of Host Migration so if the host leaves it auto-chooses next best host
Tweaked the following Old school Mode settings based on feedback:
- Added unlimited sprint
- Increased Magazine Size
- Added Rag doll Cam
Optimizations / Tweaks:
- Identify party by background color (in Lobby)
- Optimized server selection for first match for better connections
- Improved network performance for 18 player games
- Optimized ‘Chase Cam’ when Spectating
- Fixed Play-list error when attempting to join from other games
- Handle Corrupt Create A Class data instead of kicking player”
What it won’t do:
- Help those with poor aiming skills
- Keep you from getting owned
- Cure Insomnia
- End world hunger
- Help the Yankees win the World Series
Are you feeling the love? I am. It’s not yet known when we will be graced with this patch, but if it makes a kick ass game even better I see no need to stop them. Hopefully it will be more productive and timely than the Team Fortress 2 patch.

Lono:
Lono, would like to comment on your recent bashing of Call of Duty 4’s single player game play. I am a 2nd lieutenant in the united states marine corps, and to be honest me and many of my fellow marines who have played this game are quite impressed with the single player. Call of Duty’s franchise has been solely based on the idea of team-play and realism, and that fast action warfare is not like a duke nukem where you can go off by yourself and be a hero. This game went above and beyond in that aspect. Yes you follow a script but as every soldier or marine on the field you are given your orders by a superrior and you do them to the best of your ability (They got that perfectly). The storyline was amazing as it shows, in some reguards, how intense modern warfare is.
You mentioned in that one part about holding off in a building and that the enemies wont stop coming unless you escape. Agreed, however that is an obvious tool used to let you know that the idea of hunkering down in a farm against overwhelming odds is impossible and that keeping on the move is what you are supposed to do.
The AC-130 mission was realistic as ever and blew me away, weapons and sound effects were more real than ide like to admit.
You also stated that you could just walk right through the game and let the NPC’s do everything, i do not agree with this in any way whatsoever. As with real combat people to your left and right are just as trained and well equipped as you are, and you are not the hero of the game, you are in the fight with other heroes who are there in the thick of it with you. So yes if you want to go through the game like that you can, but that was not the point. The whole point of the game was to immerse yourself in a role, (a standard marine infantry sgt), amongst fellow marines in a heated conflict in the middle east.
I believe your review of this game came from the perspective that you wanted a game like duke nukem where you were the center of attention and that you could pull off unrealistic moves to accomplish the goal. This is not realistic. Realism is carrying out a fallen marine from a building to the nearest corpsman, while other marines are fireing their rifles all around you.

Lono, you nailed this thing on the head dude. Respawning enemies and trigger points suck. That level where you have to race to the extraction point…I ran my ass right their as well.

I don’t like to flame or act like the fanboy I am not but I will say this.
I enjoy all aspects of COD4. It has replaced Halo3 as my mulitplayer game of choice.
With that said I am going back to Mass Effect now.
