*Warning the following article may cause CnC3 fanboys to burst into flames*
The biggest name in real time strategy (or more accurately real time spamegy) is back with Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath. The most popular RTS game this year that nobody I know is playing, has just announced their new “all-star” cast for their first expansion.
Find out who it is after the jump!
Natasha Hentstridge of Species fame (the only good thing she ever did 12 years ago) will play Nod villain Alexa. Carl Lumbly from the show Alias, will play her cohort Marcion. Lumbly is all right, I guess, though the only good thing he ever did was a guest appearance on Battlestar Galactica.
Really? These are the two people you brought in for your expansion? At least the first game had Michael Ironside & Grace Park, two actors who actually flourish in the Sci-Fi genre. Hardly an “all-star” cast if you ask me.
The single player campaign for CnC3 was its only saving grace IMO. The cut scenes, a Command & Conquer staple, did add a great deal to the storyline and feel of the CnC universe.
This newest cast seems like a waste of money. Casting actors and shooting large scale cut scenes must dig into your overall production budget. I can’t help but feel that money could be better spent running a quality beta and providing post release support. Or maybe some actual strategy and non-cookie cutter based game mechanics? Cinematics are great, but the game play should come first, with movies and other extras left for when you know your game is polished.
No no, you’re right EA. Gamers don’t want gameplay or strategy, they want lame B-level acting talent for the cut scenes of a single player campaign they will play through, at most, two times. Unbelievable. If you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go play Forged Alliance now. All this talk about CnC has made me homesick for a real RTS.
