Spyro Fever?

Source: IGN UK & Joystiq … and Wendy’s

On a quick lunch trip to Wendy’s, I noticed something peculiar. Instead of the usual movie tie-in toy garbage they include with the kids meal, I saw Spyro the Dragon?

I left scratching my head thinking this was some new, direct to video game-turned-movie, which as we all know, are awesome! Ahem… Later, I was surprise to discover what could be a double coincidence?

First, IGN UK says a movie may be in the works from The Animation Company, but this would be a long way off, then I noticed from Joystiq that Spyro was a recent PSN release. Apparently the toys are a promotion for The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night.  Very odd indeed.

Not that Spyro was terrible, but I found this to be quite an unusual choice. What’s next? Bubsy the Bobcat or Aero the Acrobat?

Actually I have an odd feeling that Pacman may be next…

Spyro 1-3 were excellent games… every Spyro after that (not coincidentally the ones that that weren’t developed by Insomniac Games) paled in comparison.

Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot games and Insomniac’s Spyro the Dragon games… best by the creators, bastardized but other devs…

I agree with Sean. The first three Spyro games were indeed the best. They were the ones that made my childhood rock hard.
All the new ones just destroy it. And what’s up with Spyro’s new design? Disappointing. ]:
