I’m sick of reading about products that are nowhere near ready to be released. I’ve touched on this previously in a rant or two. While discussing things with some of the SarcasticGamer.com forum regulars today I think I’ve come up with an idea for a more narrowly defined solution here, and that’s what I’m going to call “the window.”
It’s impossible to keep release dates and product announcements from leaking to the public even if developers and publishers wanted to (which they don’t), but we would be better service (in my opinion) if we limited things like upcoming software releases to say 30 days in advance and hardware release dates to say 90 days in advance. What this does is two-fold. It lets us know when the impending release of something is (and avoids the GTA IV-ish “half year” delays when the product is still two months out) and it also allows us to better focus on (and more importantly “enjoy”) the products we have here and now without focusing on the supposedly “better” titles coming later on.
