Rothbart’s Rant #30 – "COPYCATS" Edition

Nope, there’s not some other alternative version of this rant, this is it. But what I wanted to talk about today was the age old topic of originality. Is originality vitally important for you to enjoy something? The topic relates to both hardware and software.

HARDWARE

In terms of hardware, you only have to view an average of approximately three and a half web pages on the web (and any topic at all is fine, by the way) before you’ll see someone accusing Sony of copying ideas implemented in the Playstation 3 from someone else. Being someone that complains a lot myself, I’m always critical of people not making strong arguments, so when things like this get tossed around I usually just shrug them off because pretty much every one of the people making the claims can in turn be shut down by going just a little bit further back in history to show that very same technology used in some OTHER product.
