The Good News:

Kane and Lynch, the multiplatform release due in late November, has revealed what sounds like more fun than a weekend in Amsterdam. It’s a new multiplayer concept called “Fragile Alliance.”

Imagine, you’re doing a bank heist with up to 8 other players. The GOAL is to get out of the bank with as much money as possible. You’ll need your teammates to pull off the job, but you also want their money. So, you know you’re going to have to take out the others, but the question is … when? Blast your pals to kingdom come too soon, and you’ll be tagged as a traitor and will certainly be cut to ribbons in a hail of gunfire from your fellow teammates. Plus you’ll be outgunned when the cops show up. Wait too long to do the job, and you’re likely to take a slug to the spleen while your teammate escapes with YOUR loot. Decisions, decisions….

First of all, I just want to know why its taken this long for someone to bring an honest-to-god bank heist to gaming. We’ve got murder simulators, car-jacking simulators, heck we even have flight simulators! What the hell? How did we miss this?

This got me thinking about other great movie scenes that might also deserve to be reincarnated as game scenarios.

  • Ride of the Valkeries landing in Apocalypse Now! “Smells like Victory!”
  • Transformers throwdown in downtown Los Angles. Don’t get stuck with Jazz!
  • Night of the Living Dead standoff in farm house. “Barbara… they’re coming to get you Barbara!”
  • Rambo v. the entire Russian Army - Rambo 3 “They drew first blood!”
  • Attack on Russian Prison Camp in Red Dawn. “Wolverines!”
  • Anything from Gia. Look it up.

Let your inner Michael Mann out when this comes to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in November of 2007!

The Bad News:

Following up on Doc’s take on Kane and Lynch’s multiplayer, Eidos’ next-gen replacement for their Hitman series, is news that the game will not have online cooperative play. WTF?!?

Eidos, dude, come on… Online co-op is standard for next-gen games… The next thing they’ll be telling us is that this is a Wii exclusive! All kidding aside, how do you release a game with two strong lead characters and not have online cooperative play? Army of Two anyone? Halo 3 anyone? Heck, fricking Crackdown had online cooperative play.

Not having online co-op in a game is like giving your kid a baseball glove and ball, but telling him he can only play INSIDE! The ball and glove are cool, but the actual implementation sucks… thanks Dad… I mean Eidos.

Is no online co-op a deal breaker? Are you gonna buy Kane and Lynch? Let us know in the forums!
