Nintendo finally officially announced online play for the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii. Nintendo also announced that it will have two modes of play: “With Friends” and “With Anyone.”

Time to rejoice and praise Nintendo for finally having the Wii join the 21st Century, right?

Not quite. Apparently Nintendo is trying to keep their kiddie console, a kiddie console for a little bit longer. Instead of using headsets to communicate, like everybody wants, you will be forced to assign four text messages to the D-pads, and whenever you taunt in the game it will display that assigned text message. This is a fighting game we’re talking about here.

Most retarded feature ever?

Not only that, but when you choose the “Play Anyone” mode, no names whatsoever will be displayed and you won’t be able to display taunting text messages.

Thanks for the online play Nintendo… Let’s see what you’ve done. There’s no communication with the people you randomly play against online. Check. Extremely limited communication when you play your friends. Check. And since there won’t be any names displayed while playing anyone, no stats will be kept at all. Check and check.

What the hell, Nintendo? The freakin’ DS has had headset communication for years! I know there’s a lot of kids that play your console, but seriously, it’s not just kids that play. Just one more reason the Wii is losing ground with true gamers.

Check out all the details on the Smash Bros website and sound off and let me know if I’m the only here that’s pissed about this.Take a moment and join the Sarcastic Gamer forums.
