September 7, 2007 - Source in Tokyo have tipped us off to an unexpected upcoming announcement from Sony HQ. Apparently the HD-DVD consortium caught the right person on the right day and offered them $29 and some Cinemark movie passes to rethink Sony’s official stance on the high-definition format wars. After serious consideration, the ante was upped with a copy of Transformers on HD-DVD and the deal was as good as done.
Sony, the largest supporter of the Blu-ray format, has reportedly signed an exclusivity deal for the next 18 months that will include not only putting HD-DVD drives in all their new PS3s, but initiating a mandatory recall of all existing PS3s on the market.
