The longstanding battle between the two mega-sites Kotaku and Joystiq ended today not with a bang but with a whimper. In what can only be described as an historic day in gaming journalism, Kotaku and Joystiq announced that as of October 1, 2007, they will officially merge into a new mega-site:
Kotaku’s Brian Crecente:
We think KokStiq represents a big step forward in the way that video games, and technology in general are covered. For starters, now gamers won’t have to go to 2 separate places to read the exact same content. We’ll just post each article twice on Kokstiq, and save them the trouble.
Gamers from Birmingham to Beijing reacted with mixed emotions, as most wondered what might result from so much duplicate coverage, residing in one place. Others embraced this new duality.
In an email received by Sarcastic Gamer this morning, Paul from the U.K. writes:
Personally, I like getting the same news twice. The same news twice is great. It’s going to be great to be able go to one place to read the same articles written two ways. The idea of the same article written two ways in one place is just fantastic. I’m really excited. I am so excited.
