This week belongs to Microsoft. There’s no denying it. The Halo 3 hype and coverage is everywhere. Since we’re all caught up in the Halo Crush, I thought I’d take a look at another console maker, Sony. Remember Sony? Well, Sony actually has something going on this week.

Jack Tretton, of SCEA recently did an interview during which he discussed why the PS3’s slow start in terms of units sold, is really “okay.” How can this be a okay? Well, he explained that the gleam of hope for the Sony faithful is longevity.

“The original PlayStation lasted 10 years — a tremendous innovation when other platforms died and were all but forgotten … The same thing is going on with the PS2, and I think that will be the case with the PS3.” The PS2 is clearly getting more love that its replacement, so that part is actually true.

Tretton went on to say that they wanted those who bought the PS3 to become “evangelists.” Does that mean that PS3 owners will have Sunday morning sermons on TV and occasional revival retreats to the country? If that happens the next step is the Sony inquisition and if that doesn’t convert us all, a jihad is on the horizon!

I see a 360 owner answering a knock at the door and there stands a man in a suit with a copy of Playstation Magazine in his hand. The man raises his palm to the homeowner’s head and screams, “BE HEALED…TRETTON REMOVE THE DEMON FROM THIS MANS SOUL!”

Will this approach help Sony win the console war? Is Jack Tretton effing crazy? Only time will tell. For those of you that bought PS3’s during what we will call “the years in exile,” this is just a test of your faith.

Have you seen the light? Do you care?
