Halo 3 - Lono’s First 30 Minutes of Greatness!

I took that crappy pic myself with my phone. Yes, I’ve just finished playing the first level of Halo 3! To say that it exceeded my expectations is an understatement. I’m not going to go into the how or where, I’ll just get to it.

Although I was underwhelmed with the opening cinematic, the game throws you into the mix pretty quickly. After orienting you to the situation, you make a desparate trek through African Rain Forest to try and save a captured Sgt. Johnson.

Luckily you start off with the Assault Rifle and your trusty pistol from Halo: CE, sans scope. The pistol felt good, but dang, that Assault rifle is a force!

Pouring through the jungle, you soon meet your new opponents clad in Yellow and Blue Armor. In a nice touch, after you’ve hit them enough times, pieces of armor come off of their bodies until you’re ready for the melee kill. Satisfying. In fact, the graphics were very detailed. I was surprised at how much detail went into the forest and the covenant forces. As you shoot the enemies in various places, I noticed parts of their armor come off and blood, alien blood, pour from different spots. It looked really good, I was surprised at how good it looks compared to the beta from only a few months ago….

The A.I. was also impressive. It was pretty surprising to hear the underlings yelp with fear after you had taken out the Brute Commanders of each little alien squad. I could go on and on, but I’ve got to say that I cannot wait for early Tuesday morning.
