A 30 year old man in southern China collapsed on to his keyboard while playing a PC game at his favorite internet cafe over the weekend. The Chinese government news failed to say which game he was playing, but I’m sure it was one of the MMORPG’s that are so popular in Asia. I just hope it was a good one since it was the last thing he ever did!
He had been playing for 72 hours straight ’till the moment of collapse. The initial report indicated that he had some heart problem that were triggered by not sleeping for 3 days. Go Figure!
I’ve heard of people playing till they dropped, but this is ridiculous! Sometimes you just have to admit that you’re tired and take your ass home. There has to be a certain point where something starts to feel wrong or you lose feeling completely. I’m guessing that when you finish your second 12 pack of Bawls, it may be time to go home.
I’ll admit, I’ve had some video game marathons, but none of them reached double digits in hours. I usually get tired of playing and I go do something else. Isn’t that the way it is for most people?
This incident has prompted the Chinese government to take steps to limit the number of hours it citizens are allowed to online game. They are even trying to get game sites to deduct points from players that play too long.
My real question is, in China how much would it cost to game for 72 straight hours at a cyber cafe? I mean that must have cost a couple hundred US dollars. Even more pressing, will his family have to pay his energy drink tab?
Have some late night gaming marathons of your own?

As a teenager, I usually get kicked off the HDTV after 7pm, so sometimes I wake up at 1am on a weekend and play ’til 6am, then go back to sleep.
