September 14, 2007 - Tampa, FL - Food and Drug Administration officials have issued an alert that has sent ripples through the gaming community. Surpisingly, this has nothing to do with Mountain Dew’s new gaming drink Game Fuel.
Authorities say 16 people are hospitalized after getting sick from eating a dish at at the Japanese restaurant Mai Kyu Yak. The dish all 16 people had in common was a new seafood dish called COD4Beta. Apparently the restaurant’s head chef thought they would cash in on the recent gaming buzz around Activisions Call of Duty 4 videogame beta test and concocted a dish consisting mainly of a large platter of gutted (but whole) cod, garnished with four colorful betas. Unfortunately for Mai Kyu Yuk, the process used to cook the betas didn’t kill bacteria that is normal and harmless to the fish, but quite harmful to humans.
