The August NPD numbers are in, and Canada has been buying games faster than a mountie chugging maple syrup. Compared to last year, hardware, software and accessory sales are up 78%. After the conversion rates, that’s about 12.5% American.
Sony’s lead over Microsoft in total console sales in July came to a quick end last month, with the 360 seeing a 100% (14.8%) increase, fueled by the early August price cut. Canadians everywhere must have strapped on their skates, jumpstarted their snowmobiles, and raced to the nearest GameStop igloo to spend their hard-earned logging money.
However, even without a hockey game on the system, the Wii continues to reign king in sales. This is due to Canada having a lower population density, thus having more room to wildly wave one’s arms.
Deepest apologies to all Canadians for the words said here today.
