A new technology which measures emotional reaction is being used to test Frontline: Fuel of War; a shooter from our (hopefully someday) real life friends at THQ. EmSense, a third-party company, has created a headset which measures heart rate, facial motions, sweat glands, and brain responses.

Test subjects so far have only been exposed to one minute of footage that captures the game’s main aspects, but future trials are planned. Only six of the subjects thus far have reported malignant brain tumors, and one with catatonic schizophrenia (seen running from the EmSense labs shouting “TANGO SPOTTED NORTHWEST OF YOUR POSITION!”). I kid, I kid, there hasn’t been any reported brain tumors or schizophrenia…. yet.

THQ Chief Marketing Officer, Bob Aniello, explains the technology helped them to make dramatic changes to the game.

“…it was originally a cooperative-play, squad-style military game, and now it’s more of an open world, multiplayer game,” Aniello said. No further comments were made to clarify if Bob actually knew that those criteria were fairly exclusive, making the statement more confusing than programming for a 9-celled processor.
