It seems that the Nintendo Wii has a critical flaw that allows any hacker to phish information from Wii users that use the Wii Browser. Specifically, Symantic did a recent security vulnerability study of home consoles to determine if any of the “next-gen” consoles were vulnerable to malicious code. What they found was startling.Symantic’s Ollie Whitehouse stated that, “As we access the web on all these different devices, we inherit web problems such as phishing - those types of online attacks and potentially malicious code as well. These are definitely problems for the future which need to be addressed.”While he believes that a malicious code attack on consoles is a couple of years off, he did note that there is a very immediate threat to the Wii. He explained that the Wii has no phishing protection for their web browser! He went on to state that he believed that phishing attacks on Wii Browser users will increase and become fairly common as hackers refine their attacks.

He also commented that the Xbox 360 was far more secure than the Wii and PS3, as the 360 was fairly secure due to the security implemented in every game and piece of software for the system.

Hmmm, lets do the math: Wii owners (generally non-technical people) using their Wii Internet Browser + No phishing security x Hackers = Well, I don’t know what it equals, but I’ll bet it has lots of zeros after it.
