Rothbart’s Rant #4 – "Leave Me Alone" Edition

How many people are on your Xbox Live Friends List? Your Playstation Network Buddy List? Your Instant Messenger of Choice list? Skype List? Now how many of those people are people that somehow got on your list that you don’t want to actually communicate or play games with? How do you politely handle that? Do you tell them that you’re removing them from your list? Do you constantly ignore them hoping they’ll go away? Do you give in and chat/play with them? We need to come up with some standard protocol for “unfriending” or “unbuddying” people you’ve somehow approved without realizing what you’re doing.

Let’s identify some of the people that you’re likely to have on your lists… for the sake of this discussion, we’ll ignore “true” friends as they’re the reason the lists exist in the first place.
