PS3 Takes Its Best Shot… And Still Loses.

Well all of the speculation that the PS3 would come up big and overtake the Xbox 360, was just that, speculation. The actual numbers have arrived. Even with the warranty issues that plagued the 360 coupled with the PS3 “price cut” and 80 gb Motorstorm Bundle, Sony still failed to move past Microsoft in monthly sales.

While every prognosticator under the sun screamed that this would be the time that PS3 would overtake the 360 and “emerge,” they still fell in monthly sales for the umptienth time since launch. The PS3 finally had Microsoft where they wanted them. The 360 was purportedly “crippled” by hardware issues that would turn off buyers. The 360 was in its second year lull. The PS3 had an attractive bundle and the promise of upcoming games, including Lair and Warhawk, among others. And what happened?

Nothing.

The PS3, despite its reported advantage, could not get past its main competitor. What does this signal for Sony and Microsoft. Well, Sony attempted to spin it to the positive by stating that they had a 61% in growth in one month, but that’s kinda like saying that they lost and have been losing the race every month, they sure gave it the old college try! I mean, the PS3 is losing to the PS2 for crissakes! It is the worst selling console today.

This does not bode well for the system or Sony the Corporation. What if they continue to sell at the current pace of between 110,000 to 150,000 units a month? I ain’t bustin out the calculator. Without involving math, it means that their install base will pale in comparison to its major competitor, the 360, which means that they will continue to get the short end of the stick from game developers.

Maybe the July sales figures really did predict the future for the PS3. On its proverbial “best day,” the PS3 didn’t beat the 360. How can they hope to compete in the future? Is the PS3 finished? Head over to our FORUMS and sound off!

More like 360 takes its best shot with 3 huge games against a virtually non-existant PS3 line up and could still only manage 5,000,000 sales worldwide this year.

The PS3 is outselling the 360 everywhere except America.

If I was Microsoft, I’d be praying for shelter from the PS3 tidal wave in 2008.

I just like it how it can’t even outsell the XB360, so how do Sony expect to out-sell the Wii, which is currently the best selling console….
