Call of Duty 4 Beta Impressions!

Impressions by LonoYes, I played the Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer Beta. Yes, it effing Rocks!

The Beta offers three multiplayer maps and you play US Special Forces v. Russian Spetsnaz. All the maps are pretty detailed and have their own quirks to get used too. Two are outdoors and one takes place in a mostly abandoned warehouse.

In the multiplayer Beta you start off as a private. As you get kills and win matches you’ll get points that help you rank up, kinda like Rainbow Six Vegas. Unfortunately, this means that you’ll star off against dudes with tricked out guns that will own you, because generally you’ll be the only private in the match… Your starting Assault rifle does have a grenade launcher, which is good, but you only have ironsights, which is bad in a game determined by accuracy at mostly medium range. The good news is that you can take weapons left by the dead. I noticed that the only time I could stay alive and get a few kills was after I dropped my starting weapon for a tricked out weapon left by a fallen comrade. Not great, but you run across so many weapons on the ground that your starting weapon is easily forgotten a minute after the match starts.

There are your pre-requisite classes: Sniper, Heavy Machinegunner and Special Ops. All have different guns, but relatively the same everything else. The fun comes when you rank up a bit and are able to create your own class. Here you can trick out your rifle and pistol and choose three “perks.” These perks range from increased hip shooting accuracy to increased health to bullets that can shoot through walls. I haven’t tried them all, but a combo that I liked was Special Ops (Mp9 Submachine gun) with increased health, Deep Impact (deeper bullet penetration) and 2 RPG Rocket Launchers. Pretty nice combo for killin lots o’ dudes.

Was it all Giggles? How are the Graphics? The Gameplay?
