In the elevator where I work, I rarely see headlines that interest me. Today, however, I saw one that woke me up. MS announced a Green and Gold version of it’s Xbox 360. The “Halo” edition.

I am sure there are hardcore Halo 3 fans that will beg to differ (to put it mildly), but isn’t this a bit of overkill? First came the controllers, then the Helmet edition of the game (that’s what I call it), and the comic books.

I can understand a faceplate or a theme, but a whole damned system? Isn’t this catering to a very finite group of individuals that possess both the capital, and the extreme enthusiasm for the Halo brand? If that’s your cup of tea…. Have at it.

Seems to me that MS might want to get it’s heat and scratching issues under control before they go and modify their consoles in any way. Instead of a Halo edition, they might want to consider a Halon edition. That way, when your system begins to meltdown from the tremendous heat, you could hit a button and release a few cubic feet of the mildly carcinogenic fire-retardant into the 360 and cool it down.I’ve enjoyed countless hours of playing Halo, and Halo 2. I know there are many people out there who have dedicated their lives to the franchise. But I think the hype surrounding the release of Halo 3 is raising expectations to an all-time high. The final product had better deliver the goods, or the boys in Redmond might have to invest in napkins to wipe the egg off of their faces when this is all said and done. In poker terms: They’re ALL-IN.
