Hey kids, time once again for another Community Content post. This time we were impressed with a blog post by Zvolen. Yes, Zvolen has gotten a lot of love from the front page in the past few months, but he continues to write thoughtful content in his blog. Other members of the community take note: this is the simple way to get your blog/community post featured! Also, having an image pre-set in the blog helps immensely.

This week’s featured blog is in reference to the pricing point of current-gen games. For those not familiar with the term, “pricing point” refers to the price that marketing departments determine they will set a game at. Contrary to popular belief, the price of products today is not generally based on the actual production cost plus a percentage markup. Instead, a product is often priced on what the company expects consumers will value the product at. For a Wii game, the actual production cost might be $20, but they sell it for $60, but for the PS3, they might lose money on every console sale (which they do) to try and get the product out there, because they make money on the game licensing. It should be noted that the contents of this blog are purely Zvolen’s opinion, and do not reflect that attitudes or opinions of Sarcastic Gamer as a whole.

Check out his post after the jump!

Community Blog Spotlight: Terminator: Salvation Review by Zvolen

Hear ye, hear ye!  In the first of what we at Sarcastic Gamer hope is a new weekly section, the writers and editors found Zvolen’s well thought out review of Terminator: Salvation and decided that it was worthy of front page material. Take it away, Zvolen!

Terminator Salvation is yet another movie tie-in game that was recently released on May 19, 2009 in conjunction with the movie of the same title. This action/shooter game was developed by Halcyon Games, a recently created subsidiary of Halcyon Company who bought the rights of the Terminator franchise, as well as Swedish developer Grin who just developed Bionic Commando and Wanted: Weapons of Fate. In Terminator Salvation players control John Conner in a story which takes place two years before the current movie, in a desolate and decimated Los Angeles. While trying to escape the area John gets a transmission of a resistance team that needs help and against strict orders decides to attempt a rescue mission.

Can this movie tie-in game escape the clichés that fall upon most titles, or should this simply be terminated? Read on to find out.

SGC Blog: Why Game?

Yes, it’s been a good while since we’ve had an SGC Blog, but we figured there was no time like the present to start rummaging through the community’s work and picking out the cream of the crop to put on the front page for everyone to read. This one comes from Zvolen, and it’s a peach of a read. Great work!

I recently had a question posed to me by a non-gamer that, on the surface, appeared easy to answer. But after some thinking, I found myself asking the same question. What was it, might you ask. Simple: why do you play video games?

Musings await over the jump.
