40 episodes of the Sarcastic Gamer Podcast! and somehow we haven’t killed each other yet. In this show we talked a bit about “GTA Fatigue” and finally got to the topic of Lono’s Wii. And yes there are plenty of just awful Wii jokes to go along with that discussion. I sincerely apologize.

The Sarcastic Gamer community is abuzz with excitement as we sharpen our claws in anticipation of sinking them into the GTR team on Friday. We also managed to channel CamaroGuy from Gamer’s Garage. I won’t spoil that surprise.
There was also some discussion of the delay of Playstation Home and the fiasco with the Metal Gear Solid 4 beta. Finally, there’s information for anyone looking for another way to support the community. The store will soon feature a kickass black T-shirt. Ringtones can be downloaded from SarcasticGamer.com/ringtones or by texting the word “sarcasticgamer” to 69937 (MYXER).
We also announced that since the prize closet is running a little empty, we will indeed be giving away crap from Dave’s parents house that he is taking without their knowledge.
We also gave a tiny clue about a major upcoming announcement for the Sarcastic Gamer community.

I just don’t know what to say about the way this Humpday Update went down. Lono arrived EXTRA cranky, and the show went down hill from there. We did manage to send out the call for people to stop emailing websites asking them to join the boycott that ended a week ago. We also expressed our relief that EA dropped the prices on RockBand. There’s more, you’ll have to hear for yourself.

Who would have believed the difference a week can make. Monday, we were asking you to reach out to major websites and get them involved in your boycott of Bad Company. Today, we’re looking back at a groundbreaking effort that brought change to both a game, and the way that smaller sites are viewed when dealing with major publishers. During the boycott, Joystiq’s Justin McElroy made a few remarks that left several of us sort of scratching our heads. Lono had a minor stroke.
Today, Justin joins us to set the record straight, defend his remarks, and share some insight on how your boycott effort appeared to the larger sites. While we might not have totally agreed with Justin’s opinion, we found a lot of common ground.
Thanks for responding to our request and for being on the show.
- Boycott Aftermath with Joystiq’s Justin McElroy
- How Sarcastic Gamer community members got Joystiq’s attention
- Why was THIS boycott successful?
- DICE’s response
- Lono’s moonwalk
- Acknowledgements to the people that made this happen, YOU
- Justin’s “Correctitude”: Changing behavior
- Lesson’s learned
- Charlie Daniels’ big beef with Guitar Hero 3
- Microsoft’s “Newton” controller
- SHAMELESS PLUG: VISIT JOYSTIQ or subscribe to the JOYSTIQ PODCAST
- Thanks for your iTunes Reviews
- Gamertag Radio must DIE!
- SG CoD4 team roster confusion
- WIN Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for the Xbox 360 (MP3 entries to dave_at_sarcasticgamer__dot_com)
- Boycott thank you’s
- Dave takes us out as a Cartoon
- Martini Time featuring “Justin McElroy is such superstar”
- Cramps rock the Sarcastic Gamer podcast

About the freshest episode of the podcast ever, this week’s show is giddiness wearing a coat made of dread. Too metaphorical? Probably.
We tried to talk through the insane price that gamers are being expected to pay for Rock Band in Europe. We couldn’t really arrive at any sort of conclusion other than bewilderment. Giving people a game 6 months late and charging them twice as much for it really doesn’t sound like a very good way to create fans.
We also touched on the most recent developments in the Bad Company boycott, that is rapidly outgrowing its origins here on Sarcastic Gamer (and we couldn’t be happier).
Finally, we got to celebrate some good news, the arrival of the totally kick ass map pack for CoD4, and why we think it’s a totally seperate animal from the offensive move that EA is making with BFBC.
Lono got his hands on a Dual Shock 3 controller and shared his initial thoughts on the device.

A funny thing happened when we sat down to record Episode 35. Actually it wasn’t that funny at all. What ensued was a call to all Sarcastic Gamer Podcast listeners and community members to take an active role in the boycott of Battlefield: Bad Company. A lack of support by the “majors” for the effort led us to ask that each member of the audience take a moment to think about the implications of EA’s decision to fragment the game into pieces, charging extra money for weapons that arguably grant an advantage to players willing to pay the extra fee.
This show focuses primarily on that, and not much else.
Primarily we try to deliver gaming news and information to you, twice a week, in a way that is fun, memorable, and humorous. Occasionally, even the most sarcastic gamer needs to know when to get serious.
This is one of those times.
Please help us involve the major gaming blogs in this effort. With their support we can and will get EA’s attention, and while we might not be able to stop their business plan for this game, perhaps we can discourage them from making plans like this in the future.
I also want to remind everyone that this is a boycott of a title, not a company. Our goal is to stop or discourage DLC that we feel is abusive of the tremendous fanbase for this and future games. That is the limit of the scope of what we are trying to accomplish here.
Thank you for taking the time to listen, and to all of those that get involved.
REMINDER: In your correspondence with the major gaming blogs, please be courteous and respectful. Send only one message and keep it simple and to the point. You want them to join the effort to stop this trend in gaming before it takes root and becomes intrinsic to the business models of major game publishers. DLC is abusinve when it offers an unfair advantage to those willing to pay more. That’s the bottom line.
