For the podcast is it ok to talk about other topics besides gaming? In regards to my podcast I plan it to be gaming oriented but I would also like to briefly speak or give tiny reviews for other things like films or comic books.

Is one allowed to name their own podcast or do you have to call it a community podcast? If so how would one go about trying to follow this rule (4. ADD THE COMMUNITY PROMO TO THE FRONT OF YOUR SHOW
This is a small short piece of audio that identifies your show as a card-carrying member of the Sarcastic Gamer Community family of podcasts, and helps to promote the OTHER shows that your peers are making.)?

I am getting together with two other British guys from the forum. We are going to meet up and do it (as per Doc's advice) A friend has a recording studio and is allowing us to borrow it on 5 September.

Is this too late for getting something in for the community podcast??

What do you mean by lag? Was there a delay between the voice chat or something?

Like xbox live lag. When you can tell the other person's talking, but you can't understand them.

That happened to us when we were recording. It happened after a while in, and we ended up exiting skype and using Stickam for a little bit. After a bit we went back to skype and the lag was gone.

there can be lag especially if it's to some1 across that annoying Atlantic Ocean or across any length of water or distance

Is it something that is consistent? It happened to me only once, and we are all in the US.

I'm not in the USA, but it wasn't me cause Kiljoy could hear me and I could hear him with 0 lag.

Hey guys!

I've only been listening to podcasts for a weeks and me and my friend decided to make our own, called Gamebrain. We have recorded it and it is about 31 mins long. We talk about stuff like What we've been playing, what we're looking forward to, we review a game every week, Xbox Live community and Achievement news and a feature where we talk about rumours like Halo 4, the Xbox 720, the Newton motion controller and stuff like that. I have listened to it back and I think it is alright, but there are a few problems...

We were recording it on a cheap MP3 player, so if we speak too loud then it goes all fuzzy. This happens a few times throughout the show, and it is very ear-burstingly painful. Also, we don't know anything about editing podcasts, but we'd like to put a short theme song or something at the start and end. Also there are some funny things that happen in the show that the listeners might not understand because they are said too quietly. Is there any way to make different bits sound louder and quieter than others??

Thanks a lot for inspiring us guys:thumbsup: If you want to listen to the show then I could probably send it through as an attachment in an e-mail. It's up to you what you do from here, but please reply:w00t: It would be brilliantly having the show promoted (or whatever you want to call it) by sarcasticgamer.com:w00t:

Thanks!

Can't help you with the editing, but you should just use Skype and audacity to record yourselves separately. The sound quality is pretty good that way, I think the blue show guys do that.

bot hthe people have audacity, you both hit record at the same time and start the podcast, when finished one person sends the other the recording, and using audacticy you can combine them into one.

Yea you can use audacity for that and to adjust the volume of the recording. Be sure that if you are going to import other peoples audio they record in a different place that you do a count down and a sync point.

Me and my friend are having a little trouble with

"4. ADD THE COMMUNITY PROMO TO THE FRONT OF YOUR SHOW This is a small short piece of audio that identifies your show as a card-carrying member of the Sarcastic Gamer Community family of podcasts, and helps to promote the OTHER shows that your peers are making."

We were wondering if that piece was the opening in the normal podcast or is it a different piece of audio.

I'm sure it will make total sense when I hear, but, why does it matter about being in different places?

Also, does anyone know where to find someone who would make a track that could be put on a loop in the background? I don't want to use copy-protected music, and I can't make it myself.

If everyone records their own piece of audio, it's easier to edit out things like coughs or background noise than editing just one.

For Example: If I cough in the Livecast while Waffle is talking, I can just make my part silence for that and Waffle's audio isn't affected at all.

hey, i am trying to get together a podcast specifically about Extra Life. I just came up with this half-baked idea a minute ago at around 12:30 by my clock. I just need a couple of guys one to talk and someone else that is willing to edit because i am tone-deaf and i have no idea what to do. Thought i would put it out on this thread because i dont wanna make people mad and get into trouble, anyone interested send me a PM.

It can lead up to EL but after that we wont have to do it. It is just an experiment really to get some feet in the door and possibly improve some skills.

Well, I'm an avid member of the SG community, but don't usually post much. I post when I feel that I need to, but that's about it (and so far, that number hasn't even surpassed 10). So does being a member of the community count for posts or for how many articles I've viewed (which is all of them in the past few months).
Also, I introduced my friend to the SG community as well, but since he just got started, he hasn't posted anything either.
So my questions boil down to these: Do articles read not matter in comparison to posts, and can other people new to the community still get their work published if they aren't the host?

I don't know if you have enough material to get 20 whole minutes together, and besides, the event is going to be over in a couple weeks anyway. Not to be a mood killer or anything, but just saying to think this through.

Ok, I posted this in the wrong thread, so here is just a copy of it:

Just a couple of quick questions, do you know of any chepish microphones that have above average sound quality? Is there any stand alone freeware (or audacity plugin) de-s'er? And finally, the compressors you provided, where can I get the software to which they are plugins?

Hey all! My buddy, Nerves, and I (Jitterbug) do a podcast called Talkingship and we're planning on sending in a SG show this upcoming week. I thought I'd chime in here with some tips I've garnered from doing our show:
1. Mess around with whatever program you are planning on using before you start recording your show. We use Garageband, and it is ridiculously easy to use. We spent a good amount of time recording different things several times before we actually released an episode.
2. We bought headset mics and were very unhappy with the quality of the audio we were able to get from them. The headset I bought cost me $75, and I ended up using a real mic that cost me just under that amount (including the stand). Add in some cables and a pop filter and it cost me around $100.
3. The tough part about using a real mic though is that you are going to need an audio interface. We use n M-Audio midi device that cost us just under $300. The better version woulda cost us about $400, and in hindsight I wish we woulda gone with that one for the extra mic hook-ups. However, please don't let the costs here scare you off. You can definitely create a great sounding podcast without all this stuff. Just use headset mic's and a downloaded compressor (Doc posted a few sites on a thread not long ago).
4. Script out your show! No one wants to listen to kids meander on about what games they've been playing and what their friends have been up to and what's been going on at school etc, etc. Make sure that you are putting together a list of topics that LOTS of people will be interested in.
5. Always have fun. Laughter is contagious, and if you and your friends are having fun, then people will enjoy the show more.

Hope that helps! I look forward to hearing what everyone thinks of the Talkinship SG show!! (Like I said, I'll be sending it in this week, so I have no clue when that mens it will be up.)

What and where can I find good music to use as background music to use for a podcast?

I don't want to use music you hear on the radio or music that you download from itunes or the Zune marketplace and I don't really know where to start looking for this stuff.

Any thoughts?

ummm...I think this may be frowned upon, but listen to the music that you like and own, and select a good 30 second to 1 minute instrumental part. Something that isn't too distracting. Loop that for the entire podcast. Listen to the Panda Watch Podcast....that's how we got our music. Though I seriously doubt anyone has ever heard the song we used =)

Officially, they want you to use your own music that you make...that way there aren't any copyright issues. Pretty awesomely, we received permission to use our song from the artist (long time fans get special treatment I guess!)

I do not know enough about how how audacity works so I am not sure if is compatable with multi-channel inputs.

As far as hardware you would need to buy some kind of USB or Firewire multi-channel interface box in order for it to work. Sorry I don't have the specifics.

Go to a music store (that sells electronic music gear like software, midi controllers etc) and look at the hardware for multi-input recording.

Prices can be from 150-500 dollars.

The way that I do it is to add silence to every single track that I put in Audacity. I'll import all three hosts sound, background music, etc. and enter in silence so they are all ~30 minutes in length. That way if you need to add something in the middle of the silence you can do so.

Let me know if that was the problem you were encountering.
