Hi, I'm zard.
I'm here cause I'm scared what Doc might do to me on the VGS forums if I didn't sign up. That and the podcast is awesome.

Some brief details about me then:
I don't have a gamer tag, as I don't (at present) own an xbox. I am on xfire however, and so you can get me on that as optkk
At the minute I'm playing through Oblivion again, but I've not long got my hands on Fallout Collection (the aim is to complete all three games before F3 comes out next year). Almost forgot, if anybody ever wants a game of Defcon, drop me a line.
I've also grabbed myself a copy of Mario Strikers Charged, which I'm going to get better acquainted to tonight, hopefully. Then there's Puzzle Quest, god I hate that game.

Real world details: I'm John merlin, I live in a town called Hayle, Cornwall. That's in the UK. (You may have heard of Hayle recently, if you've been keeping a close eye on environmental news, as there's a lot of talk about the offshore wave hub that's going to be built in order to generate enough electricity for a fair portion of the town. It's also the home town of one of the British servicemen that was taken hostage and released recently.)
I'm 23, with my birthday in September. I've got an extended family, in that I have no "real" brothers or sisters, just a half brother and three half sisters, but I call them all family. I live with my mum at the moment, my fiancé is about to move in as well (yeah, that's going to be a bit awkward, but it's only until we kind afford a place of our own). We're getting married in September, and are honeymooning in the south of France.
I'm a government contractor at present, I had out grants for things like heating and insulation to people who aren't able to help themselves. Although this sounds quite rewarding (and in the beginning it was), like any job, it some becomes run of the mill, no matter how much you're able to help people. I'm in training to branch out at the moment, so that I can survey houses for heating and energy efficiency, but we're being told one thing one minute and the next we're told that we need to go back and do some more. Don't you just love training?
Hobbies, well, gaming, when I find the time, airsofting (think of it as tactical paintball),
films (quick top ten from me then (in no order): Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Mallrats, Dogma, Clerks, Shaun of the Dead, Blade Runner, Serenity, V for Vendetta),
music (quick run through of bands then: spunge, AC/DC, Blind Guardian, Capdown, The Donnas, Eagles of Death Metal, Flogging Molly, Goldfinger, Hundred Reasons, Iron Maiden, Jack Johnson, Kubb, Less Than Jake, Metallica, NoFX, The Offspring, Pink Floyd, Queen, rootjoose, Static-X, Tenacious D, Uncle Brian, Violent Delight, Weezer, X-ray Spex, Yngwie Malmsteen, ZZ Top),
listening to podcasts (Video Game Show, Pacific Coast Hellway, PCGamer (UK), Sacrcastic Gamer (of course)), listening to podnovels (7th Son, Shadowfalls (and Badlands), Infection, Ancestor, Singularity)
and now that I'm living back down in Cornwall, I plan to get back in to surfing.
Well, that's me, in more or less a nutshell, err, if I've missed anything, let me know and I'll add it on.

I told you it was brief!

I believe you missed your social security number, credit card information, mothers maiden name, and what times your house will be empty. That would be very helpful.

Paintball, at least on the occasions that I've played it, is a very faced paced, speedball style of play. Airsoft can be played like this, however most sites tend to run longer games (there are two coming up next month in the UK that are 36 hour games, although I expect they'll take a break for food and sleep at some point), usually with multiple objectives. People also tend to wear camo, as opposed to boiler suits. The guns are replicas (largely speaking) of real weapons, as opposed to something that resembles a load of tubes taped together. Because the guns replicas you get different types of guns; pistols, sub-machine guns and assault rifles, sniper rifles.

I am not goin to get mad or anything so don't think of my tone as that way, but you are wrong. You say you have only played paintball a few times so I can understand where you would think this. You probably played speedball or something like that. I play woodsball which is pretty much exactly like you described, only with paintballs. You play in the woods/woody area and you usually wear camos. There are snipers and all diff kinds of guns.To help you further understand the kick ass-ness of paintball plz visit the greatest woodsball site ever, specialopspaintball.com

I had assumed that there would be a more tactical version of paintball, I've just never come across, or know anybody that has. I am aware of a fair number of people that have come to airsoft from paintballing because they prefer it, but I'm sure there are people that transition in the other direction as well.
The reason I prefer airsoft is the guns, as I said above, they look and feel like the real steel versions, and the fact that you're not firing paint at one another.

At the end of the day, it's down to personal opinion. ;)

Paintball, speedball, whatever. They all involve tiny hard objects flying at more miles per hour than I prefer, coming straight at me.

Crazy adrenaline junkies.

Yes I know it's an old thread. I just clicked on the last page and looked for a title that vaguely interested me. And that's how this thread came back to life . Was any of you actually on the forums when this thread was made? Just curious.
