Am I missing something? Every friggin gaming website in existence is practically shouting about Missile Command coming to the 360's XBLA on Wednesday. Is this THAT big of a deal?

There are no fewer than a dozen flash versions of this game out there already. Free Flash Games. While it was, in it's time, a fun game..... Why the hubbub? 360's are melting.... PS3's are gathering dust.... Wii's are selling like crack in Compton. That's news.

Once again I feel like the subject of a joke. Do you all think that Missile Command, with it's crappy old graphics and repetitive game play (not to mention that horribly annoying sound of smart bombs) are worth all of the attention?

I can't imagine a situation where I would choose defending silos against falling LINES and TRIANGLES, over say.... Chainsawing locusts in Gears of War. Shoot. I'd probably even choose Resistance over Missile Command. If I could afford a system to play it on. (Daily quota of PS3 price digs.... reached)

Oh yes, you've touched on something not Sony-bashing... Oops! My bad, you somehow worked a Sony bash into a XBLA-retropalooza post.

I have strong feelings about the XBLA retro stuff, but... maybe I'll save them for another post. Maybe a Wii thread.

I think there's a lot to be said for a graphical update to old games that I can then play on my couch. Yeah, it's just cashing in on nostalgia, but I still appreciate the chance to revisit these games with a fresh lick of paint.

At least it's not like Nintendo's VC, where you just get the same old game with no updates or improvements.

Exactly.

XBLA has a nice mix of retro titles that have been remastered and good more original arcade games (eg. Mad Tracks, Pinball FX). I don't mind spending points on XBLA retro remasters and original games. I've never spent a single point on the Wii, nor do I intend to, because I'm not paying 5 bucks to play the exact same F-Zero I played in 1991 and can still play flawlessly via emulation.

Now Nintendo is looking for people to develop originals for purchase, including people interested in Homebrew stuff. Unless it's absolutely amazing stuff, I'm still not inclined to spend Wii points. Nintendo is missing a bet. We all know there are a lot of games for the old Famicom and Super Famicom that never made it stateside. Why not "localize" them and sell THEM on VC? That would be worth a purchase. The exact same games I bought from 1984-1998 (NES to N64, including TG16 and Genesis)... no freaking thanks.

I heard that missile command is getting a graphical boost. Maybe they will be 3D lines and triangles...

I don't think many of the retro titles are any good, I just don't get the hype about them. :-/ I play classic games all the time from online emulators, and a lot of them just aren't fun for me, or are only fun for about ten minutes, not even considering graphics

yes I am quoting myself...
The graphics have been updated but alas, the game has gotten worse...
You no longer fire missiles at the other missiles, you fire some stupid ass lightening and it sucks. definitely one of the more stupid retro games...

I played the demo for a laugh. And I got it. Two actually. I laughed at how incredibly short the demo was for the classic mode. Then I laughed separately at how incredibly short the demo was for the "evolved" mode. Then I chuckled knowing that even at 400 points, $5 I might be tempted to give a homeless person, I'd NEVER buy a game like that. My son saw the "classic" version and said "What's that? You hit the lines with circles? That's dumb." While not historically accurate, in his reality, it's perfectly accurate. I've "evolved" myself over the years... I could never play the games I did as a kid. Maybe it's AOADD (Adult Onset Attention... I'm hungry).

That is wonderfully funny. Not to be rude or anything, but especially because it came from roth. :D
