Crytek talks up DX9 limitations
Laws of phsyics re-written

CRYSIS DEVELOPER Crytek has finally weighed in to the DirectX 9 v DirectX 10 debate, spelling out for gamers what the differences in technology will mean for its upcoming PC title.
There appear to be differences between what the single player will offer and what the multiplayer will bring to the table. Speaking about the multiplayer aspect, the DX9 version won't have the spectacular physics advertised in trailers and demos so far, nor will it have a day and night cycle.

This means that the shoot-down-trees gameplay simply won't exist in the DX9 version, at least in multiplayer, with players reduced to passive interaction with the environment, rather than the active carnage that has previously been promoted.

The company cited high server load and low performance as the reasons for dropping these features from DX9 version of the game. To get the full multiplayer experience, including the high-end interactive physics, gamers will need to be running a fully DX10 rig, which means a GeForce 8-series / Radeon 2-series and Windows Vista.

Gamers with DX10 rigs will be able to play on DX9-specific servers, but not the other way round.

How this will translate into multiplayer is still unclear. Is the interactive physics being dropped from the DX9 version entirely, or is this simply a multiplayer limitation? As with everything regarding Crysis, information is drip-dropping its way out slowly, but we suspect all will be revealed only when the game is actually sitting on a shelf.

But it's still the artdesign that makes the final product either a standout or not.

And from what I've seen so far, crysis looks fairly generic. Technically outstanding yes. Thats for sure. But never the less art wise generic. I'm sorry that you have such a killer engine, and then put out something so unimaginative.

I hope the final game will proove me wrong.

I was aired on Video Game Show asking this exact question.

My answer was "Yes, it is definately worth the upgrade not only because Crysis looks like it will correctly utilize DX10 and dual/quad core processors but so you can have it for other DX10 games that will be used".

I must say I can't agree more.

what are you talking about? have you not seen the videos that they have released? ive come from incrysis.com and they released gameplay videos from germany or wherever where some ppl were able to play a level of the game. i think you were referring to the beta that is out right now where it currently has A LOT of things disabled.

Yeah, but the PC is a constantly evolving platform, restricted only by the technology available. Consoles are restricted to the technology in that machine, which is cutting-edge when it is released, but 5 years later is nothing compared to PC graphical fidelity. It's really not fair to compare the two graphically.

Yea, and i love my PC and all, but i can't afford to keep buying new parts for new games. My cmputer is really out of date now, and can barely run anything. Consoles are good because you pay one price, and you wont have to buy a new one for 3-5 years.

Thats the big argue against computer gaming, because of constantly changing hardware your top-of-the-range machine can be bottom-of-the-barrel in just a few years. However that also means you wont be stuck with the same old graphics in every game as long as you upgrade it every now and then, for example i completely went off Playstation 2 because the latest games looked old and dated compared to the PC versions, but when the PS2 first came out i really thought it couldnt look any better than that.

Luckily for me i recently dished out £1000 on a new computer that will easily run Crysis, so i wont have to worry about low performance from it at least fror another 2 months, lol.

i still remember them saying that DX 10 high will be superior in terms of performance compared to DX 9 high. So much BS going on from Nvidia, Microsoft, and Crytek about DX 10...

Shit... Can we please not have another PC vs Console debate?
This thread was just about DX9 and 10.

PC Gamer magazine gave Crysis 98/100. The screenshots were the best ever in the history of gaming graphics-wise. The AI kicked ass. No person deserves to take this and bash it for being too great to run on their pcs.

I do feel that Need for speed Pro Street is rather competative with Crysis in graphics, and Need for speed Pro Street is DirectX 9c. If they went Dx10, they would of knocked Crysis out of the ballpark.

^ NFS: PS does look great, but there is not even 1/10th of as much stuff on screen as Crysis. Not only does Crysis look better than any other game to date, the destructible environments and epic battles raging all around you as if you really were in a movie puts Crysis in a whole other category.

Yeah, its not as good, but the cars are rather sexy. I feel that the environments that you race in are rather bland however. I dislike the raceway type theme. By law they cant do the who illegal street racing anymore.

I found one glitch in Crysis already, you get a certain distance and objects go invisible, but people dont, so its kinda like wall hacks. You can do the same on CS also. Its an unfortunate glitch, but oh so funny to watch.
