I have to admit. I didn't think twice about ordering the BLACK EDITION expansion pack for Rainbow Six: Vegas last night. The game is my favorite ever. I love it. I would marry it if I could.... But I'm spoken for. (It's complicated)

The last expansion, RED EDITION included a ton of new maps PLUS two totally new game modes.

But a few minutes after I forked over the 800 MS Points, I began to feel kinda used and dirty. That's because there were just 3 new maps in this expansion. 3 maps. 10 bucks. $3.333333334 per map. Lunacy.

Do you guys think it's worth 10 dollars for a 3 map expansion?

Only if it's a game you plan on playing for the distance.

Or if it comes with a $15 rebate.

I'll be honest, I get irate sometimes paying more than 10 bucks for a FULL game, never mind the expense of some crappy expansion pack. I've fealt ripped off by some of these expansions. It'd have to pretty freakin good for me to fork that over...

They sell complete games on live arcade for half of that price! Need I say more? The problem is not that Ubisoft dares to charge that much. The problem is that too many people out there are willing to pay that much!

Well, this pretty much ends my online Rainbow Six Vegas play.

I refused to pay 500 points for a measly 3 songs for GH2, no way in hell I'm paying 800 points for 3 maps.

Especially given the RED EDITION which was nice, but some of the maps were outright never played.

Dude I love Doscala. It took my friends and I all night to finish that terrorist hunt.

The black pack has DISAPPEARED! Its gone from marketplace.

The black pack has DISAPPEARED! *Its gone from marketplace.

Is that because you already bought it?

$10 for 3 maps is a little steep... I too refused to cave for the GH II songs (mainly because I'd already bought them once on the PS2 and still own that version). Bundling and/or unfair pricing should not be rewarded with a purchase. unfortunately, there seem to be thousands and thousands of idiots out there willing to buy just about anything. I'm not sure if it's the same group of idiots every time or more like a rolling, ever-changing group of idiots that you join and then get a break from, only to join back in later...

T-Hunt on Doscala was good.

But, ugh, the other game modes on that map suffered from horribly one sided spawning. Far too frequently I'd get into a game, Doscala would cycle up and half (or more) of the people would leave. You're genuinely the first person I've heard say something positive about that map.

According to joystiq.com (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/29/shock-and-awe-as-rs-vegas-black-pack-was-meant-to-be-free/):

Shock and awe as RS Vegas Black Pack was meant to be free

In one of the more joyful miscommunications of our gaming times, turns out that the Rainbow Six Vegas Black Pack, which [ur=http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/rainbow-six-vegas-black-edition-goes-awol/l]spontaneously went missing after being on the marketplace for 800 MS points[/url], was supposed to be free. Yup, you read that right. It "was originally intended to be free content for the fans of Rainbow Six Vegas" according to Major Nelson (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/29/rainbow-six-vegas-black-pack-update-good-news.aspx). All players who purchased will be reimbursed automatically in 8 to 10 weeks. That's a bit long, but we keep hearing that word free and all anger just melts away. The Black Pack will be back on June 30, with the Red Pack being offered for free as "appreciation" on July 6. Now that's what we're talkin' about! For those who purchased the pack, please make sure your account info is up to date so Microsoft can reimburse you properly.

Well, that's a pleasant surprise ... and we were just joking when we said we'd "like to think that Ubisoft was so racked with guilt over charging $10 for five maps (when that amount previously got you five maps and two new modes) that they pulled it." Turns out, they were. So much so that they offered the same content that is already available in the PS3 version of the game for free. That word just doesn't get old. Don't forget to download your free Wii browser while you still can. Free, free, freediddy, free.

[Thanks Felixlighter and Stan]

This is why I never buy new packs the day they come out.
Doc's 800 points are gonna be stuck in limbo for 2 months!

If it were any other game.... I'd have waited.

If I understood Chris Paladino's post correctly over at GamerScoreBlog, you will not be refunded points but $10 to the CC on your account... he said to make sure the information in your account is up to date... if they were simply crediting back points, they'd only need to know your gamertag... :-/

Red map pack was fine, and co-op terrorist hunt is great on almost every map. my new favorite is Red Lotus, too bad the attack and defend is hostages... there is nothing more annoying than some half a tard shooting the hostages within the first ten seconds.....

Oh and the black maps take waaaayyyy too long to load...

To be honest.. I would never pay for an expansion pack. If they can't be bothered to make the game good enough when they first release it then I can't be bothered to pay for there not being botheredness. It's just like microsoft and thier operating systems.. 2000 has 4 service packs, XP - 2, Vista - Crap! (
Yes I know they give it for free which is why I mainly go for PC games.. When someone releases and update for a game you don't have to pay for it. You just download it and your off..)

But I can't be arsed to buy something that isn't fully ready.

Sorry for my ranting but It just gets on my tits that a games company expect you to pay for there egerness to get money and put that extra plasma screen TV in there toiletseat.. ;D
