View Full Version : New Tony Hawk demo
Chexd 09-15-2007, 09:02 AM not sure if anyone else has played it but yuck!
Its basically SKATE :S:S
The old style camera is gone replaced with (you guessed it) a cam focusing more on the board a la skate and the graphic style of...yes... SKATE. Hell, even the name "proving ground" is a refernce to SKATE as far as im concerned.
SKATE wasnt really my thing due to it being fiddley although i can appreciate it being realisitc, i Just preferred Tony Hawk.
I think what they have dont to TH is a shame as we dont need a SKATE clone...we have SKATE so why not cater for the "pick up and play" gamer too?
I dont think here has been a good Tony Hawk game since the first THUG on the PS2 but things can only get worse now they are trying to copy their rival...or maybe im just tired lol

same here Shane. there just isn't much of a point to TH if they are going to go this rout.
Spudnik 09-15-2007, 02:52 PM I did not like the demo at all. It felt like every other TH game I had ever played. Also graphics, gameplay, and tricks were all sub par when compared to skate in my opinion.
shadowtech 09-15-2007, 04:22 PM Admitedly, I haven't played a skateboard game in the longest time. Not since THPS2 anyway.
After trying the skate demo, I was actually sort of surprised how fun the trick control on the thumbsticks was.
Then a few days later I loaded up the new Tony Hawk and was actually in shock that the controls had remained exactly the same all these years. Not to mention the story mode (when you talk to other skaters) is a total lamefest.
Beowulf 09-16-2007, 09:36 PM Its a shame that Tony Hawk games have just completely gone downhill (no pun intended) since the Pro Skater days.
Even to this day, Tony Hawk Pro Skater (either 2 or 3, im not sure) remains the highest scored PS2 game on Metacritic. I remember getting the first one and playing the crap out of it.
Its a real shame.
Canuck 09-16-2007, 11:18 PM Seems I'm the only one that thought that THPG actually introduced some pretty neat concepts. The Nail the Trick thing was a pretty cool spin-off of analog control, although skate is still better-done in that respect. The modding, climbing and so on are also cool concepts, though others look like complete gimmicks. The graphics are alright, though skate's are better.
Overall, skate owns THPG but it's still a decent game.
Legendtaker117 09-17-2007, 07:08 AM Skate didnt apeal to me at all, I did not like it. Also I miss the underground Tony Hawks, where they had Levels that were unique and cool, and Build a Park (My favorite Feature). Now they have the free roam city thing goin on and its just not as cool to me.
Beowulf 09-18-2007, 01:02 AM What's wrong with a free roam city?
Legendtaker117 09-18-2007, 01:22 AM Its just not as unique and cool as the levels they had in the Underground series of Tony Hawk. American Wasteland and Project 8 didnt impress me much at all, and the demo of proving ground just is another disapointment to me.
serialrocker 09-18-2007, 01:40 PM Proving ground is just the same thing we've seen from the series many times before but thats not going to stop some hardcore skate punks from buying it. Let's face it if tony hawk makes some green off the game he could care less how good it is.
Beowulf 09-18-2007, 06:46 PM But doesn't that apply to all games?
serialrocker 09-18-2007, 07:30 PM true, but still big disappointment used to love this series.
Beowulf 09-20-2007, 07:06 PM I think everyone loved it before Underground 2 came out.
The Pro Skater series was just incredibly fun.
Canuck 09-20-2007, 07:08 PM I loved the Pro Skater games and the original Underground... the series just went downhill from there.
They should make THPS 5 or skate will take over.
Ala Douche 09-21-2007, 12:37 AM Proving ground is just the same thing we've seen from the series many times before but thats not going to stop some hardcore skate punks from buying it. Let's face it if tony hawk makes some green off the game he could care less how good it is.
the hardcore skate punks will buy SKATE...
i used to skate for about 4 years and every new tony hawk that came out i was pissed at because there has never been a realistic skate game except thrasher: skate and destroy
keith22 09-21-2007, 03:45 AM Skate has potential i really liked how the game mechanics were did'nt likethe camera angle. Skate is by far more realistic than Tony .
