Hey,

Can anyone recommend a good PSP RPG?
Anything in English works, also preferably no PSone games either.
My favorite types of battle systems usually involve grids and strategy.

Anything at all that's decent! Thanks!

Have a eye on the Final Fantasy Tactics Remake. Should be out soon. I don't know if this would fall under your "no ps1 game" rule or not.

I have Tales of Eternia and Breath of Fire 3 but would not recommend them to you because they're a.) not really good and b.) doesn't involve a grid based tactical battle system.

I'm not certain but I believe I have heard something about a upcomming PSP version of Disgea. But I could be wrong on this one.

I would be at least curious about a Disgea game on the PSP. All my friends were playing the PS2 version a couple years back, so maybe now would be the time to check out the series.

Thanks for the input.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is an RPG'ish game. Kingdom of Paradise, Jeanne D'Arc. The Legend of Heroes and Dungeons & Dragons Tactics are all fun. Some bugs here and there but all worth the cash imo. Dungeons & Dragons Tactics is kinda a pain but fun if you like Dungeons & Dragons.

Lord Of The Rings Tactics is an okay strategy RPG with a familiar gameplay style, as well as characters you should like. Also the Dungeon Siege game was a good action RPG as was Brotherhood of the Blade 2 (1 was crap). And of course Puzzle Quest because of the DEEP strategy needed for that game.

Never even heard of Puzzle Quest. Sounds interesting to say the least. :O

...Never....heard....of...Puzzle...Quest..... to the fire of Hades with you sir, and my God have mercy on your soul, for the damned shall look upon you and shudder, "Here lies the infidel who knew not of the orgasm that is Puzzle Quest."

But anyway, its an amazing game that has heavy strategy and RPG elements, in a game that could be compared to say, Bejeweled or Hexic.

And yes there is a Disgaea coming out for the PSP (Cant wait)

...Never....heard....of...Puzzle...Quest.....

My excuse is...the past 2.5 years I have been uberbusy and knee deep in my university degree, and have had next to no time for gaming. :(

So I'm trying to catch up on the good stuff on PSP/360 when I have the time. :)

Buy it, and all you will hear about is Puzzle Quest. It is the hand-held WoW equivalent.

Yes, its that addicting.

both are brilliant and jeanne d'arc would maybe just what shadowtech asked for in this thread.

The PSP is underrated when it comes to RPG's, I have more PSP RPGs than DS Lite RPGs...

Awesome PSP RPG's:

Brave Story: New Traveler
Jeanne D'arc
Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness
Final Fantasy Tactics War of teh Lions (?)
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (action RPG really...)

There's more, that I own, but my mind just hit a road block, I'll list more when I get back home...

They're close, both in October...

But they're both ports... But ports of amazing games so you know they have to atleast be good...

I've grown to really like D&D tactics. Its reallllly dry though and unless youve liked other games from the D&D ruleset family youre probably going to hate it. It does cram an impressive amount of D&D rulage into it.

I love RPG's but the PSP has been sucked dry of most RPG's. I would recommend going down to Gamestop Best Buy or whatever you guys call a game store and get a DS with Final Fantasy III or go and find some homebrew because I got nothing :(

The DS doesn't have many decent RPG's either... and FFIII is so mehish it hurts... Glad I played it before I bought it...

but Phantom Hourglass is out soon... And so is Final Fantasy Tactics (got the same scores in Edge (9)... And Disgaea...

Jenne D' Arc Is pretty cool. It's a pretty solid strategy rpg. Great graphics, cool effects, decent story, although I've only put a few hours into it...

I was one of the few people who like Alien Syndrome which I will recommend. And their is Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony.

It's #1 on my list for things to try out, right now. It sounds snazzy.
Now to find the time, that is the only question.

It's probably pretty long to...

I've put like 6 or 7 hours into it and I don't even think I'm half way...

Diagaea will be amazing just like all the other games in the series!

Never even heard of Puzzle Quest. Sounds interesting to say the least. :O

you can get puzzle quest on xbox live arcade now too!

Final fantasy tactics will probaly your perfect game though given your description.. you might wanna try downloading the demo of band of bugs on xbox live arcade too. it fits the grid based rpg theme evev if it's a bit basic. Can't hurt to play the trial version though.

Disgaea is amazing!! played it on the ps2.. The sequel is also very very good!!! Buy it seriously! the dialogue is hilarious and the character creation options are insane.. if you wanted to do everything on this game you'd have to set a few years aside!

I guarantee there isn't a person out there that has played it that will disagree with me!!

Yeah, Final Fantasy Tactics is a good choice for a solid PSP rpg, though a bit hard at times. And I'm not crazy for Final Fantasy, as my name might suggest. It's actually a mockery of Square Enix and their fondness of sequels. >_>

They're not actually sequels though dude. It's just a series that all run along the same lines. Totally different characters totally different stories! As i'm sure you can tell I love them. haha

Untold Legends was great for the PSP.
Oblivion also when it comes out, if it hasn't already...

Breath of Fire III. Since I have CFW, it's probably the first RPG I've played for more that 7 hours. I don't think I'm halfway through either. I also know that Dragoneer's Aria is a load of crap.

Puzzle quest is crap, IMO, I know everyone is going to get on the hater train on me about that one but...

I'm playing Dungeon Siege right now and really liking it.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is just too complex for PSP gaming, IMO... I returned it for dungeon siege.

Disgaea is my fav TRPG of all time. The PSP port was really great. I'd also recommend final fantasy tactics.
