View Full Version : Why is Zune so confusing?

I was trying to Download some podcasts from the Zune Marketplace(Sarcastic Gamer, Achievement Junkie, Makor Nelson, X-Play) and none of them are working. Sometimes here it'll work but rarely, then I'll go to my dads house and it'll work fine then come back here at my moms and it won't. Also the Sarcastic Gamer Podcast list stops at episode 29 but when I know for a fact there's more because I'll log into Itunes and see the episodes that have failed to make it to Zune. I'm just woundering why Zune can't be simple to work with and how I can resolve this problem. Yes I can download and listen to music but podcasts arn't working any more.

well....the Zune software can't be easy to work with because Microsoft made it, and they decided that the original Zune software was way too good in its original form.

That being said, I haven't had problems downloading any podcasts (but I have had problems having podcasts downloaded that I didn't need the Zune software to automatically download.) One thing you might want to try is to get the podcast feed directly from iTunes, and copy it into Zune. That is what works for me.

Edit: I have had a problem with downloading, but that is because it was trying to put the files in a place that didn't exist. I use an External HD for my music, and for some reason Windows changed it from F: to E: without me knowing. So, it didn't fix the mistake until I had to fix it.

Well, my feed for my Zune is just fine (c'mon, SG, there are Zuners who listen, we just don't have any iTunes Comments-type area, to my knowledge...). Perhaps it's your mom's computer? I remember that my old comp used to kick my Zune in the nuts every time I tried to put something on there. Same for this PC, but after a while, it rectified its problem.

Also, to add onto what Niyon is saying, there should be a feed URL somewhere on the main site here. Just C&P.

Edit: Scratch what I said about Zune 'cast update not working well for me; SG got up early today, and appeared in my downloads instead of waiting until the morning to do anything. Woohoo for me, I guess.

Zune is complicated because, well, its made by M$, and everything seems hard.

I figured out what it was i had to do a manual update for it to look for new podcasts and to put them in the right format and it works now :D

Things get gooped up occasionally for me and I have to maintain it, but I get podcasts, so I don't really complain. The Zune software is actually not very consistant in it's behavior, we just have to work past it. Really though? iPod killer? Yeah right.

Or an iPod Classic

Screw the Classic, get an iPod Touch! The iPod is the ONLY thing that Apple's made worth buying. For me, the selling point is the ease of use while driving. With other mp3 players, it'd be too hard to change songs and therefore I would die a horrible, painful death.

Avoid the accessories like the plague, though. I said the iPod is the only thing worth buying. :D Save for a case, the accessories are a bunch of CRAP.

Get an iTouch. :D

Is that some crazy combination of an iPhone and an iPod Touch?

But yeah, get an iPod so much simpler. Nano's are only £99 now.

Please don't start this debate here, again.... if you really need to speak you mind on it or want to know more on how the Sarcastic Community feels on iPod Touch vs Classic go HERE (http://www.sarcasticgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6004). and may god have mercy on your soul.

I really love how this thread turned from a "Please help me with a software problem" to a bashing Microsoft thread to a debate between iPods vs. Zune then to a debate between iPod vs. iPod.

I own a Zune, and I actually adore the software. It's very neat and clean, and works well, so long as you keep the files organized yourself. I take nit-picky care of each of my music files and IDE3 tags.

I imagine that Zune software has trouble with podcasts (I have to tell mine to update sometimes, sometimes it's automatic) because podcasts were originated to be on iTunes. Zune just hasn't figured it out yet, but it's getting better. I recommend using the default settings that it sets for podcasts (deleting all but the three latest episodes, syncing only the unlistened or partially listened to episodes). I tried messing around with the settings and it only made it worse.

Really, the solution is keeping all your files organized.
