View Full Version : I'm going to get a DS, what games should I get? thedoctor248 03-29-2008, 03:30 PM My birthday is coming up, so I'm going to ask for a DS. My aunt & uncle and grandparents always give me money though, so which DS games should I buy? Whisperkill 03-29-2008, 03:44 PM I suggest, Mario Kart DS, Phantom Hourglass, and Ninja Gaiden Hollowcow 03-29-2008, 03:55 PM Ninja Gaiden for sure! I would also recommend Elite Beat Agents, Puzzle Quest, and Contra4 if you like 2d shooters. Volkov 03-31-2008, 01:20 PM Elite Beat Agents is only fun if you like tapping the screen to poor quality pop and Top 40 music. Ninja Gaiden is great, along with Mario 3v3 Hoops, Mario 64, Picross, and even Call of Duty 4 was pretty good. If you like puzzles and riddles, then Professor Layton and the Curious Village is good for hundreds of them. Baka 03-31-2008, 01:26 PM Either DS Castlevania release. Both games are awesome. Abelmisi 03-31-2008, 03:48 PM Mario Kart DS Elite Beat Agents New Super Mario Bros Metroid Prime Hunters These are pretty much must-haves. gruntassasin1 03-31-2008, 05:13 PM A certain buy would probly be Castlevania Portrit of Ruin And a person with a ds should always have.............. 1.mario kart ds 2.metriod prime hunters 3.new super mario brothers 4.phantom hourglass Nozama 04-01-2008, 11:42 PM Elite Beat Agents, Pokemanz, Metroid Prime Hunters, One of them Fire Emblem games... If you can find a copy, the first Phoenix Wright game SWSilentkiller 04-02-2008, 09:18 PM The Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice series, Phantom Hourglass, Mario Kart DS, Meteos while it is an old game it is a very fun puzzle game in my opinion, Super Mario 64 DS (does anybody see the contradiction in that title?). Those are just some of the god DS games out there. Mallico 04-03-2008, 03:37 AM Very surprised that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates wasn't suggested. Great game, very long for a handheld. It's better with friends to play it with but even so I wouldn't neglect the single player. firebox 04-03-2008, 06:05 AM If you're into it, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl will keep you occupied for HOURS. Also Hotel Dusk: Room 215, if you like adventure games. Pretty much all of the games mentioned are worth a try. ploogle 04-03-2008, 04:52 PM Phantom Hourglass, Pokemon, Puzzle Quest... Look them up on IGN. FEARMASTER93 04-04-2008, 02:14 PM The Phoenix Wright series, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, If youre into a life simulator get Animal Crossing Wild World, a simply addicting game is Brain Age, or Brain Age 2, and one I want to get is Picross DS. kdawg12 05-25-2008, 10:35 PM Orcs and Elves, Zelda, and one of the Brain Age's just for the quick gameing sessions Masselli18 05-28-2008, 08:05 PM definitely ninja gaiden codinthepocket 05-29-2008, 02:11 PM Why not get a PSP instead? The DS is fun, but I got bored of mine quite quickly, mainly due to the bad graphics and limited number of great games... Some of the games were great. But there weren't enough... Mexor13 05-29-2008, 05:57 PM Final Fantasy A2 when it comes out! NintendoGirl 05-29-2008, 06:35 PM I enjoyed Animal Crossing Wild World, but some people don't like those sort of games. It was my personal favorite for the DS, but I'm weird like that. Zelda also sounds good, It's a great series, but I lost my DS before i ever got to buy it :( choco 05-29-2008, 08:48 PM you need animal crossing wild world, nfs ps brain age 2, cod4 and phantom hourglass Maul 05-30-2008, 05:35 AM The legnd of Zelda Phantom hourglass deffinitely, it takes around 20 hours to complete it thuroughly and then it has lots of replay value. Pokemon obviously, the flagship title of Nintendos handhelds. Metroid Prime: Hunters, a real hidden gem. All the fun of Halo condensed into a 4-player all out deathmatch. Animal crossing: Wild world, this game will eat your life. spate 05-31-2008, 08:46 AM How about Final Fantasy IV DS when it comes out in July? :) consolerpgdude 06-15-2008, 01:02 AM I'd agree with New Super Mario Bros. I also would suggest Golden Age 1 and Golden Age 2. I also have Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and Partners in crime. Check these out if you like rpgs. I also bought the remake or release of the FF6 that was on Super Nintendo and am playing that on the DS. It may be originally a GBAsp game though. AcesHigh4895 06-15-2008, 11:54 AM Zelda, AC: Wild World, Pokemon, The World Ends With You, Brain Age, Ninja Gaiden. I never like Metroid Prime Hunters, I couldn't get into it. Raven 06-15-2008, 01:25 PM Any of the Advance Wars games is a great choice (Days of Ruin is a little more balanced though). FF3 is great and FFTA2 is coming soon also. VaeVictus X 06-15-2008, 07:01 PM I recently got a DS and so far I've managed to get 4 games, some of which I've played more than others, but I'll go ahead and share my first impressions. m&ms: Break 'Em Circuit City had the m&m bundled DS, including this game and a plush m&m figure, on sale for the same price as the DS itself. I bought two of these bundles, one for myself and one for my fiance. As for the game, it seems like a decent puzzle game, but nothing special. I find the boss fights kind of challenging, but it's been years since I really got into a puzzle game that wasn't Peggle. Pokemon Pearl Version I picked this up for myself, and got my fiance Diamond Version. She has much more Pokemon experience than me. I've only played halfway through Sapphire and Fire Red for GBA. She's put hundreds of hours into each of them. :P I have to say though that I really like this one although there are a few minor issues (Why the hell is the move text on the battle screen gray in color with a black shadow...not exactly easy to read). Unfortunately the DS doesn't support WPA wireless encryption (a major issue for me) but the wireless features in this game are pretty cool. Now I don't have to hunt down another pokemon player in real life in order to trade. Too bad there's no "real" chat functionality in the game... Final Fantasy III I picked this one up 2 days ago. This is the game I was planning to get first for DS, but Pokemon had to come first in order to play with my fiance. It looks like a top quality PSone Final Fantasy game to me, and seems to be a very well-done cinematic retelling of the the NES FFIII which was never released in the US. After played the ROM of III years ago it has been one of my top three Final Fantasies, but this DS version really has a shot at being my new series favorite. High praise indeed. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime I just got this one yesterday. I saw a copy on clearance for $15 and, remember the good reviews I've read, decided to dump a little grocery money on an unexpected game purchase. I played it for an hour or so last night before reverting back to FFIII, but it looks like it could be a pretty fun game. And with 2-16 player support off a single game card, I won't have to buy another copy to play with my fiance. :) Note: These opinions are subject to change as I become jaded and angry. :p DarkVidard 06-16-2008, 04:03 AM You need to get TONS of games :) If you like adventure games and story in a game, Take one of the Ace Attorney games (the 1st one) Strategy fan? Advance Wars or Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings Action fan? Bleach is a good fighter, Ninja Gaiden is cool. Oh and of course METROID PRIME HUNTER Platformer? Mario is on that system man, pick the New Super Mario Bros Racing? Mario Kart DS, that's pretty much the best the DS can do in racers. RPG? You have a great selection of RPG there, Etrian Odyssey, FFIII and FF IV coming, Magical Starsign, Mario and Luigi partners in time... Oh man, I forgot, ZELDA! Puzzles? Puzzle Quest baby! Meteos, Magnetica, Club House Games... Man the list could go on and on and on and on and on and on :) You just picked the BEST handheld system ever made. The sheer number of games you can get for it puts the PSP to shame. And they are cheaper too. ilovehorsies 06-16-2008, 01:02 PM Professor Layton and the Curious Village Ace Attorney series Puzzle Quest Geometry Wars Galaxies Contra 4 Elite Beat Agents New Super Mario Bros The list just keeps going so I'll stop now. balaamsafe 06-16-2008, 04:35 PM new super mario bros pokemon advanced wars Kingofall32 06-16-2008, 04:43 PM I'll second/ third/fourth etc. any of these games: AC: Wild World (yes:D) Harvest moon DS Mario Party DS Super Mario 64 DS Hoshigami Remix Lost in Blue (both) Mario Kart Pokemon I know i'm forgetting some, but oh well. Must have's are AC:WW and Mario Kart. I WOULDN'T reccomend Metroid or a couple other games, but thats my personal likes. EDIT: Advance Wars is AMAZING too. Mallico 06-16-2008, 08:37 PM There's actually a thread (http://sarcasticgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6741) I've started recently that has only DS games recommended by people from SG. It's nowhere near complete, but you can take a look if you want. randomperson 06-17-2008, 12:07 AM Ninja Gaiden, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (same game), Mario Kart DS, and Advance Wars. balaamsafe 06-17-2008, 04:56 AM R4 chip :lipssealed: TheWorldEndsWithMe 06-26-2008, 10:29 PM If you can't tell by my forum name, I think The World Ends With You has the potential to be the Nintendo DS game of the year. If you are into story driven RPGs, with the patience for a SLOW opening, you're in for a game that will blow your mind. banzaigtv 06-29-2008, 02:14 PM The first game you should get is New Super Mario Bros. It is the NDS's landmark title. That was the game I purchased along with the NDS. Best 2D Mario platform game since SMB3. (Then, of course, you could play SMB3 as Super Mario Advance 4 since the NDS is backwards compatible with GBA games.) SWSilentkiller 06-30-2008, 12:04 AM I have to recommend The World Ends With You (why does this Title remind me of No More Heroes?). Problem is it's not exactly easy to find. I managed to get lucky and I found one copy at circuit city (of all places). None of the 3 gamestops in my area had it. So If you are going with The World Ends With You, good luck finding a copy. sayaintjimmy 07-01-2008, 09:06 AM pokemon i like the series but hate everything else kdawg12 07-14-2008, 11:34 PM Elite Beat Agents is only fun if you like tapping the screen to poor quality pop and Top 40 music. Ninja Gaiden is great, along with Mario 3v3 Hoops, Mario 64, Picross, and even Call of Duty 4 was pretty good. If you like puzzles and riddles, then Professor Layton and the Curious Village is good for hundreds of them. Defintelty Professor Layton it is not only fun but addicting to George McBain 07-31-2008, 02:23 PM Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime I just got this one yesterday. :) Anyone else played this and tell me what they think? I almost bought a used one for $12. I really like JRPGs, but this looks a lot different, though I know it isn't a JRPG Canibal Duk 08-03-2008, 11:19 AM professor layton, pokemon d&P, and Metroid Prime Hunters 3 of the best games on the market:thumbsup: Fearless987 08-03-2008, 11:37 AM [FONT="Comic Sans MS"]1.The Legend Of Zelda The Phantom Hourglass:thumbsup:! 2.Mario Kart DS:thumbsup:! 3.Animal Crossings:thumbsup:!
