View Full Version : Sould i get a Nintendo DS? Longfoehammer 03-29-2008, 02:28 AM I am debating getting a DS for myself. I know there are alot of educational games for the DS, but i want to know what games a first person shooter fan would like wit a DS. Thanks pr0mqu33n 03-29-2008, 02:51 AM As far as FPS fans, the DS might not be the best choice if that's the only genre you like. Metroid Prime: Hunter was a really good FPS for the DS, but for the most part, the system really shines with the puzzle games, and some really great RTS and RPGs. I recommend the DS to just about any gamer, because I havn't met anyone yet who doesn't like at least a few things on it. I myself have bought 3 DS'es, and have felt that it was money well spent each time. Hope that helps, post me if you have any other questions! When it all comes around, I play my DS more than any other system I own. Anbaraen 03-29-2008, 03:13 AM There are a few FPS games... Not many high-quality ones though. Metroid Prime : Hunters and Dementium : The Ward jump to mind. The DS covers nearly every genre of gaming. Puzzle, RTS, RPG, and even FPS and Racing games at a pinch. And there's also the huge library of GBA games. I'm sure you'll find something in that mass of titles that fits your gaming needs and play style completely. Diortem 03-29-2008, 03:28 PM If you only want FPS, Im sorry to say man, but you are SCREWED in the portable race. There are 3 good ones I can think of on the DS (CoD4, Dementium, and Metroid Prime Hunters), and the PSP having only one analog and using buttons to mimic the other one REALLY blows at this type of game. If you are looking more broadscope... well, look around the library before you decide. PrinceGaming 03-30-2008, 02:36 PM the PSP having only one analog and using buttons to mimic the other one REALLY blows at this type of game. I know, this is one of the few things about the PSP that annoys me. It's like using an invisible grid to aim. Inzader 03-30-2008, 03:40 PM Well, there's not alought of FPS's but action games are out. Ninja Gaiden, Contra 4 the list goes on. Finch 03-30-2008, 04:40 PM as far as FPS, your kinda looking at the wrong market. However you want adventure / platformers / puzzle games...DS is the way to go. I absolutely love mine. The game library is so large you should be able to easily find a game you will love. Epiphany 04-11-2008, 10:47 PM Honestly, no, NOT if that's all you really want out of your DS. The DS DOES have some amusing FPS, but if you're looking for anything of grand significance, save your money and wait for the next great console FPS. However, there are some FPS to take note of. Number one being Call of Duty 4. I have personally played and enjoyed this game several times. I don't know about the single player, but I've had a great time with the multiplayer. Metroid Hunters is another decent one. Many liked it, though I found the single player a bit repetitive. The multiplayer isn't bad, feels a bit fast pace if my memory is correct, and includes power ups and such, but don't mistake it for Halo Jesus. Least, but not last, there's Dementium Ward, but that's a survival horror, so that's completely up to you. And last, but not least, we have Brothers In Arms. I have played the single player for this, and it was fun. The only real problem is that the graphics don't really shine here, and so when you're in war, every so often it may be difficult to spot a guy or two shooting at you, but if you've got the bucks, it may be worth checking out. I've listed all of these games in order of preference for your convenience. Well... Almost. Just switch Brothers In Arms and Dementium. :wink2: Ala Douche 04-12-2008, 03:12 AM I myself have bought 3 DS'es, and have felt that it was money well spent each time. oh my lord, how do you justify buying the same thing 3 times? have kids, or just 2 reserves? :p btw, off topic, what part of washington do you live in? PS: i have a DS and love it, though i save FPS games for my PC. Mallico 04-13-2008, 04:51 AM FPS + Handheld = crap (few exceptions I guess.) There's so many other choices out there for DS games, I'm sure you'd like at least a handful of them. SWSilentkiller 04-13-2008, 11:26 PM There are alot of good non-FPS and non-education games on the DS The Phoenix Wright series, Legend of Zelda: PH, New Super Mario Bros. and the sonic RPG is going to come out sometime in the near future, it's made by bioware. Those are just a few of the games. godslabrat 04-14-2008, 12:17 AM I'll echo what many others have said: The DS is not strong on FPS. There are a few good ones, but to get the most of it, you should look to Action, Puzzle, and RPGish games. I love my DS, it's one of my most-used gaming systems... but it doesn't treat all genres equally. |
