View Full Version : What Moment(s) in gaming just made you genuinely happy to be gaming?
NoneOfYourBusiness 03-25-2008, 04:37 PM I know this is kind of a broad topic, but was there ever an out of the ordinary that just made you simply happy you were gaming. It can be old or new, online or off. Just got me thinking from this whole nostalgia series that was recently started.
For me, one time in recent memory was playing Resistance: Fall of Man @ like 10 at night against the actual Insomnaic Developers. A few casual rounds of CTF and it was fun as hell for some reason.
PopTrogdor 03-25-2008, 04:53 PM killing a jeep, a tank and 3 ground people with one tank shell in Warhawk, i almost cried in joy
RAGNAROCK 03-25-2008, 06:10 PM not in a specific game but, beating a really hard Boss in a game you like when your heart is beating like crazy.
Anski 03-25-2008, 06:23 PM Last night while playing CoD4, I killed someone camping in a building and took his spot because I had a feeling he would come back. He did, 5 more times, and I killed him each time. Then he got a buddy to come with him too, and I killed them both. I was rolling on the floor with laughter by this point.
All with my silenced MP5 =)
DeathByWaffle 03-25-2008, 06:42 PM I would have to say playing Halo 2 custom games all night with a full party. One of the best times I have ever had was Coagulation Zombies, and the humans had Warthogs. We were camped on on a hill in the corner, me, a driver, a passenger, and a sniper. Wave after wave of zombies was mowed down until we began to get overrun. We all got in the Warthog, but one guy was not fast enough. We did not have enough room, and he screamed as we drove away, and I looked back as he fired as fast as he could to take as many out as he could before he went down. That was one of my best moments of gaming ever. I felt like I was in a movie or something :D
Paladin58 03-25-2008, 07:03 PM Probably back in the day, when I played Ghost Recon 2, when I got into matches with competent, intelligent people, and then pwning them. Either that or playing Coop Bot Hunt on there, in both it and Summit Strike. Good times.

lol, nice story. Hilarious and too true.
Tinman 03-25-2008, 09:23 PM I'd have to say when me, Evl0ne, and Mitch808 are all playing together. Clarky joins sometimes. And so does our buddy, my friend, sergeant panda. But when we're playing, it's some of the most fun I may ever have. Ever.
Jordan the hobo 03-25-2008, 09:40 PM Usally when i beat just about every game but the biggest were the ending/last level of
1.Portal/half-life episode 2
2.Halo 3
6. COD 4
the last level and ending to all of those games simply blew me away. That is why I game.
And the great times playing mutiplayer with friends.
strika234 03-25-2008, 09:49 PM when me and my friends were playing sword slayer on halo3 with low gravity and high speed on high ground.
we played it for 3 or 4 hours, and it was AWESOME:w00t:
PopTrogdor 03-25-2008, 10:14 PM ok compared to my last entry, ive been thinking, and while listening to my iPod, my old raiding playlist songs came on, and i just started smiling, as i remembered the 2 years i spent with my guild, clearing MC, BWL and AQ...i know its sad, but the people i played with, the personalities, the people i talked to everyday of my WoW life, both in chat, and on ventrilo....were some of the best of my late teens...wierd that people i have never met, i had so much fun with.
To go back to that time, and to raid with all those people, the annoying mage, the cocky rogue, the ****ing hilarious warlock, and my mate the hunter, who i will be seeing eventually as he's gonna live close to me soon :P and all the others, to go back to that would make me the happiest guy in the world. (won't divulge names as i can't be arsed to write em all down :P)
Biohazared20 03-25-2008, 10:22 PM Every time I play GTA and I take a rocket launcher and shoot it at car and watch that car blow up, makes me happy
Artemis 03-25-2008, 10:31 PM For me, one time in recent memory was playing Resistance: Fall of Man @ like 10 at night against the actual Insomnaic Developers. A few casual rounds of CTF and it was fun as hell for some reason.
Alot of the devs are awesome to play with. I got to play with some of the Bungie guys when M$ did the GWF thing a few months ago and they were really awesome and funny guys.
But even after plaing with such godly people what really does it for me is the SG gamer nights. I don't really talk much but just playing and listening to everyone makes it worth living through the next two weeks for the next one. SG nights are also what keep me playing MP games because I hate playing with random people but I don't have that many friends (Im sorta anti-social in real life.).
"Unlikeable. Thats what it says here. Unlikeable. Unliked by all."
jidand 03-25-2008, 11:53 PM In the CoD4 campaign, after the nuclear explosionthat was the most dramatic, amazing death I have ever seen in a game.
Diortem 03-26-2008, 12:53 AM Moments in no peticular order:
1) Fighting the Shoggoth in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. FEW CREATURES in any game have impressed me half as much as thing thing did.... and no other has scared me on sight... especially in that "this cant POSSIBLLY be going on."
2) Dark Samus's battle in Metroid Prime 3.... 5 words that should inspire awe in general... "Gun Carta" and "general kung-fu"
3) FEAR: extraction point's ending... one of the best slaps on the side of the head Ive ever gotten from a game.
4) System Shock 2: All of it... this game just pulled me in... and Shodan was full of her evilly goodness. "One thing's for sure... Shodan should never be allowed to play God. She's way too good at it."
5) Dawn of War.... the plot was FAR more engrossing then anything an RTS has ever offered me... and so far none of it's sequels have managed to go there again.
6) Omnikron... a "gimmick" that could really freak you out when you died for good in the game.... creeped me right the **** out.
7) Sam & Max Season 1 Episode 4: The War song.... need I say more?
ok, that's enough for now... but Id say Ive had a few moments....
piston11792 03-26-2008, 12:56 AM a certain point in portal where i decided my destiny without something telling me what to do
Torreyjs 03-26-2008, 03:52 AM beating final fantasy 7
thats right i beat that old horse
Meta666 03-26-2008, 12:13 PM When I was a kid and always waited till like 10 pm to start playing RE2 in my dark room, hiding beneath the covers, because that game scared the shit out of me.
Or when me and 5 of my friends gathered and made a Fifa 99 tournament. Took us a while to finish but it was lots of fun.
But usually it's when you're fighting a boss for like 20-30 minutes and think you're about to lose but you kill that son of a bitch and start shouting at the screen because you're happy as hell.
Duffman X18 03-26-2008, 01:47 PM Just exploring in Oblivion makes me happy. It's not a challenge, it's relaxing, and I just smile and feel right at home.
PopTrogdor 03-26-2008, 02:17 PM 5) Dawn of War.... the plot was FAR more engrossing then anything an RTS has ever offered me... and so far none of it's sequels have managed to go there again.
AoM beats the motherloving shite out of Dawn of War, i love dawn of war, but nothing in the whole universe can even touch AoM in terms of greatness in the RTS genre...nuff said
NoneOfYourBusiness 03-26-2008, 04:50 PM Starcraft: Brood War, a good Defense game with some funny people. UMS was amazing
Meta666 03-26-2008, 04:54 PM Civilization 2. I loved just building stuff for hours not caring if I'm going to get attacked or not, and only when I got to the space age then I would start kicking the crap out of everyone else.
Diortem 03-26-2008, 05:08 PM AoM beats the motherloving shite out of Dawn of War, i love dawn of war, but nothing in the whole universe can even touch AoM in terms of greatness in the RTS genre...nuff said
Havent played an Age of since 1... but then, Egypt AND Rome are in 1... why do I need to go on?
Anski 03-26-2008, 05:10 PM But usually it's when you're fighting a boss for like 20-30 minutes and think you're about to lose but you kill that son of a bitch and start shouting at the screen because you're happy as hell.
This reminds me of the first time I killed Emerald Weapon in FF7, with my party around level 65. I had tried so many damn times and I literally jumped out of my chair and started yelling in my excitement.
NoneOfYourBusiness 03-26-2008, 05:40 PM and it reminds me of God of War 2. at the near end where you have to make your way down this spiral stair case and the medusas would ALWAYS freeze you and there were like beserkers always swinging away....so it was basically instant death.
PopTrogdor 03-26-2008, 08:25 PM Havent played an Age of since 1... but then, Egypt AND Rome are in 1... why do I need to go on?
nah mate, i couldn't give two shits about Age of Empires, its Age of Mythology thats the bomb. Its amazing! If you have not played it, then shall silently judge you! :P

codinthepocket 03-26-2008, 09:38 PM The release of COD4, and the moment I knew that it would be the 1st game I would get on release day. I was so excited. Played online, and everyone was beginner. It was FANTASTIC!!!!!
Meta666 03-26-2008, 10:02 PM The first and only time I killed two guys with one bullet from a sniper rifle in CS.
Diortem 03-26-2008, 11:31 PM nah mate, i couldn't give two shits about Age of Empires, its Age of Mythology thats the bomb. Its amazing! If you have not played it, then shall silently judge you! :P
Who shall?
J/K, man... but to be honest, an RTS has to pull me in... usually the theme has to be there long before I give it a second look.
RatTail 03-27-2008, 12:18 AM The last few moments in CoD4. That was just awesome. I can't wait to beat the game again.
Modding Jedi Academy to overload and having epic duels, Playing games that are considered terrible by everyone and enjoying them, I'm good at that sometimes. I think the best thing is Taking a game, it could require skill, or it could be that your guy is just maxed out on skills attributes gear and everything, But taking that game, and just completely raping. Super smash, Call of duty, skill oriented. Oblivion, or star wars game going Dark side, or Fable. The rape, oh the rape. Adoring Fan lolz:evil:
SWF Joker 03-27-2008, 03:17 AM killing sephiroth cause he was a complete bastard and beating Devil May Cry 3 (Damn that game was hard but so GOOD!)
AlmightyEmperor 03-27-2008, 04:18 AM In Halo 4 player co-op
driving a chopper up the scarabs leg
that was awesome!
ShockwaveLover 03-27-2008, 04:43 AM The rise of a certain podcast, and with it, a certain forum community...
MJBarret 03-29-2008, 10:50 AM I feel genuine pride as a gamer every time a game, that tackles censorship and pushes the boundries of freedom ever wider, is released!
Legend 69 03-29-2008, 03:34 PM In Halo 4 player co-op
driving a chopper up the scarabs leg
that was awesome!
