Interesting.........

For me it will be on the PS3, I'm not interested in DLC as I don't have a credit card and most of my mates don't have 360's.

What about you?

The 360 has exclusive content, bigger install base, and is a cheaper system. Seems pretty obvious which will sell more. MS is smart when it comes to making money so price drop for the 360 in the US next month confirmed.

In response to that article: At one point EA was a Playstation brand. The lack of EA support for Dreamcast was a killing blow to Sega. Now EA games are lead platform for the 360. Alot can change over time. It seems to me that Sony doesn't care too much about it s multiplatform titles. I would have thought Sony would have got the exclusive content for GTA before MS could get too it since there are far more GTA fans who own sony consoles.

I don't care about the exclusive content. It's not coming out till the end of 08 anyways, so why does it matter now? I'll be done playing GTA4 by then and have moved on to other games... If MS was smart they would have gotten the exclusive content to be released now.... not 6 months from now...

I don't know. The reasons this guy lists are so wishy-washy. I mean you'd expect a casual gamer to buy the cheaper console to play the game, unless he wants the blu-ray player.

I don't see how handing out free M$ points is bad...

The only real reason I could see people buying it on the PS3 more than the 360 is either graphics if Rockstar decides to utilize the PS3's hardware and the storage space of blu-ray, or the fan-base built up from the GTA series being more prominent on the PS2 than on XBox.

the article looks entirely from the 'xbox suxorz LoLoLOloL' point of view. if 1/2 of all people who own a Xbox bought a copy of GTA then PS3 would have to sell double their install base and then sell a copy of the game to every person who owns the machine to outsell Xbox. The guy says in the first page that GTA is a hardcore gamers game, and then spends the rest of the entire article talking about how its such a casual gamers game.

And "most people don't even connect to the internet with their console"??? What. Nearly everyone connects. Casual gamers and non-casual gamers. Xbox fanboy, or PS3 fanboy, or even PC fanboy, you have to admit that this battle was won long before MS coughed up $50,000,000.

who really cares? You guys will enjoy it on the 360, i will enjoy it on my PS3, it will be a well loved game, and i probably won't be playing it anymore when October comes, so the DLC doesn't bother me.

Either way the only winner is Rockstar not MS and not Sony. But, I will add this usually GTA games are so huge and have so much to do in them why the DLC. This fact has me worried because I feel the GTAIV may not be as long as the others in the series. May rent this game this time around.

Thats what I thought. I will still buy it because even if its not as long as previous games I will still love it. I will still be playing this in years to come. I think my time in GTA games was comparable to the amount of time people spend in WoW. The main thing that I was concerned about was that it is trying to be everything. I really wanted it to be an off line only game, or at most a coop game. but I guess I was alone in that hope because everyone is talking about how its online play will be what sells it so I will just :lipssealed:

I'm not really bothered by the sales figures or on which console it sells the most. If it sells well, then good for them. I'm just happy I'll be getting the better GTA experience on my 360.

Huh? MS and Sony make there money on game sales. MS and Sony make money on each game sold on there console.

Anyway if you have been following this game the city is smaller than GTA SA but its more detailed. GTA IV will have far more replay value than any of the other GTA games because it has 16 player online multiplayer and 15 multiplayer modes.

u know, if u dont have a credit card u can still buy points card, and we really dont know when the exclusive content will come outYa we do. The first part of the exclusive content comes out in August and the second one in 09.

Let me put it this way Ms makes money off the liscensing fees for the 360 Sony makes money for the liscensing fees for the PS3 and RockStar and Take Two makes money for all of the games sold both on the 360 and PS3, so yeah they will be the ones making the money.

Im stuck.

Im hoping to buy a PS3 in the future after i buy my new TV. So i would prefer to get it for the PS3. However that could be along time away, espechially on my wages.

Or i could get it now for my dad's 360, the drawback being i wont be able to play it in my room and it wont be in HD.

Typical PS3 owner, who has probably never picked up an Xbox.

I know the Morganator quite well. We attended law school together. He now works between London and LA doing things you wouldn't understand.

With regard to this thread that the PS3 will sell more copies of GTA IV than Xbox 360, what a load of fan-boy bull ****!!

(NB. I own and play both consoles)

The 360 has 4 times the install base and sells more than twice as many games per installed user. There is no chance of the PS3 selling more, unless Sony decided to purchase a couple of million copies themselves.

I am not sure which platform I am going to buy this on - I have both a 360 and a PS3 and just can't decide. I hear the ps3 will work better for overall loading throughout the game but the DLC sounds pretty interesting. The 360 does kind of kick Sony's butt when it comes to online gaming and from what I have read, GTA4 will have a lot of multi-player goodness in it. I really want to get this on the ps3 as I want to support Sony but currently online chat sucks on ps3 which is very annoying and in my opinion highly desirable for online games.

GTA4 will undoubtably sell better on the 360 in North America, probably in a ratio of at least 2:1, but it may be much closer on Europe. On Amazon UK and Amazon France for example, pre-orders are higher on the PS3, so it may be that overall the attach rate for GTA4 will be higher on PS3.

I, who have both consoles, am still undecided on which version to buy. For past GTA games, the controls have always favoured the Playstation controller, but this sounds like it has been designed primarily for the 360 controller, with the triggers being used to shoot, and those controls copied and pasted on the PS3 controller, where the triggers should NEVER be used to shoot.

I dont really care all that much about DLC - I'll be too busy playing Resistance, LittleBigPlanet and Banjo probably to care much about it.

One thing that may clinch the deal is if only the 360 version has custom soundtracks.

Oh well, I guess I'll wait for the reviews.

PopTrogdor

Once again i say, who cares? DLC is ages away and you have to buy it im guessing, so even though now GTA4 will be £5 cheaper, the dlc will end up being £4 each so then that = £3 more if you buy both. And with one coming in '09? Thats so ****ing much time away, we are only a couple of months into '08, can you really see yourself still owning GTA4 by then? I can't as im a student, most games get traded back in pretty darn quickly

I want to get a PS3 in a couple of months and I will probably buy some, if not most, multi-platform titles on the PS3 because they will most likely get the better version of a lot of multi-platform games, now that developers are finally starting to get used to developing for the PS3. I won't however buy the PS3 version of GTA4 because of the fact that the 360 version will have exclusive DLC that will entice me to get GTA4 on the 360.

I couldn't disagree more. To date, PS3 has been plagued by inferior ports of the most common multi-platform games and I still see no evidence of that changing. I'm still yet to see one multi-platform game thats better on the PS3 than it is on the 360 (especially in a graphical context,) and the LIVE integration on 360 is still leagues ahead of PSN. I still can't believe people don't go online with there consoles!

As for the thread topic, I agree with you - I'm also getting the game on 360 for the superior online experience and the DLC.

of course this is going 2 change developers now have a better idea on how 2 design 4 the ps3 and bluray so ports are going 2 b easier 2 make and do a good job on, and also psn is far beter for NOT LAGGING!
i personally think that these games will sell proportionally 4 both consoles but in the long run i feel ps3 will sell more consoles because i suspect that it will sell more consoles. just my opinion not fact

Odd... I've never listened to IGN's Three Red Lights podcast, but Episode 30 (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/864/864084p1.html) has a comment in it that was making the rounds today. If you listen to it (a 360-centric podcast) from about 59:20, you'll hear the IGN Xbox 360 team say (when asked which version of GTA IV should folks get) "Well, we've actually played on both systems, so from what we've played, which is still you know we played it probably three months before it comes out so things can change, but visually uh you know you'd have to be looking at them side by side but the PS3 one definitely looks a little bit better but you'd only know that if you were playing them back to back. If you played the 360, there's not enough differences that you'd really care. The only thing really is downloadable content which you know the first two pieces of downloadable content are coming to the 360 first, or exclusively."

This struck me as odd since a lot of folks are absolutely convinced that the PS3 version is mainly to blame for the GTA IV delays (despite rumors it was really the network code being worked on to allow 16-player online that was the main reason.)

That puts Burnout Paradise, COD 4, and now GTA IV that folks have said look "virtually identical" but have given the nod to the PS3 for looking slightly better.

That doesn't surprise me; the PS3 has always been slightly more powerful in the graphics area then the 360 hasn't it? I'm going to get it for the 360 but I'd be interested to see the difference.

Wrong, the 360 has always had a better GPU, the PS3 just has a more powerful, but much more complicated CPU.

On the whole DLC thing...we are a minority in the gaming world. I would bet over say 60% of the people that plan on buying GTA do not know about the DLC.

Also the whole "all consoles go on the internet" thing, I have 3 friends, off the top of my head, that own 360s and do not go onto Live. Also had to help 1 of my friends set up his Live, and hell i dont even own a 360.

Either way the game will sell great and Rockstar will make out big.

I'll buy it for the system it runs better on. If they're both basically the same I'll probably go for the PS3 version mainly just to have another game for it and because the system is much quieter. I bought skate and I chose the platform mainly because the system is less noisy but the framerate issues when you were going at top speed were so bad I returned it and got the 360 version.

I'm going to wait and see what the reviews say before choosing.

The area with the glass (or mesh?) covered structure (I mentally picture it as the far back right as the demo starts out)... if you screw around back there quite a bit and run back and forth up the far right wall, you should run into some pretty serious slowdown...
