Hey Guys,
I was just talking to my cousin that is in the marines on the phone yesterday. He wanted me to pick out a good 360 game for him and his fellow marines to play on the community 360.
As they are in a very small base with only 300-400 people they DO NOT HAVE LIVE and HAVE 4 controllers.
I was thinking something with lots of play time (without live).
They already have COD4 and some others that came out around the same time.
Let's hear your recommendations and thanks for brightening the troops morale :)
I was thinking about Mass Effect. Thoughts?

Thanks for responding guys...
I Agreee that Halo 3 would be good but unfourtanetly I don'
t know exaclty what games they have.
I know they have and like COD4 so i'd thunk they already have halo i mean, Halo 3 for the 360 is like Grand Turismo for the ps2, everbody has it.

you should phone your cousin and ask what games he has.

its hard to make a choice if we don't know what games he already has...

Are they just into shooting games?

A party game could be good,
such as Scene it LCA or Fuzion Frenzy 2.

COD 4

Halo 3

He said that he already has COD 4. And the respawn comment, not funny. That's actually really innapropriate.

Go for broke, get Rock Band.
Seriously.

Mass Effect is one of the greatest game ever, but it is 1 player only.

Rock Band. Good. I didn't think about that. Or you could get Guitar Hero 3 and save 50 bucks.

The Rock Band idea is actually a really good one. Being a Marine myself, and knowing other guys who've been there, Rock Band will provide them with hours of entertainment, which is what they're going to need. Party games probably won't be received well, and Mass Effect or any other RPG is probably a bad idea as well. Those are more of single-person games and he probably doesn't have a lot of alone time to play video games.

I would definitely suggest Rock Band as well. GH3 is cheaper, but only provides one way of playing. RB will allow them to let loose a little more and have more fun.

Yah I agree a little to far.
I mean i'm not for the war but I support all the troops.

I was thinking about Mass Effect. Thoughts?

First of all, welcome to the forums.
Secondly, I'm intrigued that they have a 360 in the marines base.
Thirdly, is COD4 the best game for marines? All the dying and terrorism and war wouldn't put soldiers in a good mood.
Fourthly, you wouldn't expect LIVE in a marine base. What would their account be under?
Fifthly, I would recommend PGR4 or Forza 2. Racing games are fantastic multiplayers. If they don't like racing, try Guitar Hero 3 or Rock Band. Could you imagine how much fun they would have playing Rock Band in a marine base? You get a very odd picture...
Finally, Mass Effect is single player. If there are 300-400 of them, Mass Effect is not the BEST game of choice there.

Also, give a shout out from Sarcastic Gamer to them. Good luck wherever they are stationed, if that's right...

Yeah, I agree. You need to show some sympathy and support for all our troops.

I know these is kinda off topic, but hardcorechristiangamer.com founder 9mmPreacher created a charity called Trade-Ins for Troops. It's way you trade in your games for the troops to play. It's a great way to support all of your troops.

For a game I would suggest Rock Band because it would be really fun.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything but I really don't think they would want shooters...especially terrorist shooters.

Well first off thanks for the Welcome and the Birthday Wish
I will be sure to tell Rothbart or one of the Crew about that:roll:
You know I think your right funny for them to want War Games but I guess anything to keep there mind off the current situation.
COD4 really isn't much like the real thing I guess.:wink2:
The large base in Baghdad which contains about 12000 has Wi-Fi in every room ect...
Hope you don't mind the buddy.

For the issue of your aunt using flat rate boxes, to be able to ship Rock Band over there then obviously you would have to just wrap it in a thick brown paper and ship it that way. It will be expensive but if you're willing to do it then your cousin will appreciate it to no extent.

And for those who think COD4 would be a bad game for Marines, you are actually completely wrong. It's quite the opposite. I happen to know how realistic the game can be, at times, so that adds to the experience. Also, despite some people thinking we're a bunch of mindless drones we can differentiate between a video game and real life. At the same time, we're normal males mostly aged 18-24 with pretty much the same interests as other guys our age, we just happen to fight wars too.

What most people don't seem to realize is that the majority of the Marine Corps is not in a combat specific MOS (Military Occupational Specialty, or job). Most of the Corps' jobs are what we call 'support'. They support the infantry so the overall mission can be accomplished. With that being said, most (note, I did not say all) of the Marines who go over there will not see combat. But, even in an infantry MOS (0351 for myself), you will not see any sort of action on a regular basis.

Sorry, that was just a minor rant on my part, but the point I was getting at is there is an unimaginable amount of down time over there. And one of the worst things a deployed troop has to deal with is boredom. Rock Band will help alleviate it more than you can imagine.

It's not that. It's just that there is a LOT of dying in the game. Not a mood lifter. Imagine how they would feel playing ground war shipment. You die like every 5 seconds. They would feel terrible... Rock Band is a great one. Army guys rocking out on guitars? Takes a lot of stress off...

Ok, maybe I didn't make it clear then. We like games like this too! I can't even begin to tell you how many guys in my unit enjoy playing COD4. And as realistic as some aspects of the game are we know how unrealistic a scenario like that is. I don't have to imagine how it would feel because I love playing COD4 as well.

I'm not sure how to explain this to you while still trying to be polite. Your thoughts make sense, in a way, but I'm telling you they're wrong. When you've served in the military then you can argue with me about how it feels to do something.

Oh, by the way, my pride won't let me not mention the fact that you said Army, we're Marines. I don't expect you to understand the difference, just know that there is one.

OK, I get it now.

Reminds me a little of that Wild Hogs quote from the Sheriff of Madrid.

"I'm the sheriff of a town of 500 people. I got my qualification from a course on the internet. For my arms training, they just told me to play Doom!"

Obviously, the soldiers have had lots of training but I got a visual link there.

Btw, did you know that the guy who said that line is Bob from "Heroes" Season 2? Hmmmm.....

EDIT: I do know the difference between the army and the marines, but I just clump together people who are fighting for their country as the army...

tried to import rock band, then i saw the Postage and Packing cost was £192... so rock bands postage and packing, would cost more than how much i paid for my PS3...then add the extra £100 for the actual game....yeh

EDIT: You will want to send a game that is multiplayer, and everyone enjoys, so like a fighter, or a racing game maybe?

Hint of sarcasm? I won't take the hint...

They also put John C. McGinley from "Scrubs" who plays Dr Cox in (why he plays a gay guy I have no idea cos he plays Dr Cox really well.)

(Coincidentally he is also a patrolman who stumbles across 4 men sleeping together half naked in Without a Paddle. Link there...it's an incredibly similar scene if I have the right person...)

They put the mother of Chris in "Everybody hates Chris" in as well and McGinley, as the wife of Martin Lawrence. Some interesting facts there (I thought they were interesting...)

Well I've told me auntie to ship off Vegas 2.
Rock Band might follow suit :P
This thread has been moved (another sign of my odd sense of categorization)
BTW For all those that said anything positive about the marines I included in the letter to him that he stirred up 3 pages of forum thread and then quoted you guys so everyone in that base will see that they are loved by SG Forum Members!
Thanks for the Recomendations.
NOTE: I'm kinda surprised that no one caught the whole iRaq and not Iraq spelling lol. (to much apple design work for me).
I'm sure they will be glad to see a comment from a fellow marine.
