I pretty much agree with this list, but I do wish that Condemned was in there somewhere. That game scared the crap out of me :O
What do you guys think? What are your favorites? Do you think some of the games should me moved on the GT list?
Eulogy 33 03-23-2008, 07:11 PM X:Com:Enemy Unknown was pretty scary, the only game that has ever really made me jump, really unnerving music too. I doubt being genuinely scary could be said of many RTS games.
Biohazared20 03-23-2008, 07:23 PM I was glad to see Doom 3, The Suffering and Resident Evil on there all of them very scary and awesome games but I have to agree that Condemned should have been on there
viatrophy 03-23-2008, 07:44 PM Condemned should off been on there.
I've always wanted to play game number 2 on the list, I heard so much about it but never found a copy. :(
DigitalHearts 03-23-2008, 07:51 PM I pretty much agreed with the list they provided.
I was happy to see Silent Hill and Fatal Frame so high on the list, though. This is just my personal opinion, but I never found games like Doom and Eternal Darkness very scary. I'm more interested in the psychological stuff.
Maybe I'm just really weird. XD
Ala Douche 03-23-2008, 07:54 PM since i first played it, i've been campaigning that silent hill is the scariest game out there. that game scared me so bad when it came out, and kept me scared after i turned it off (which i sometimes had to do just to calm down).
janzantinga 03-23-2008, 07:56 PM wow, for having such bad graphics they sure are scary!
Meta666 03-23-2008, 08:00 PM Where is Alone in the Dark? The original game was scary as hell, and the fact that I was 8 had nothing to do with it.
Jordan the hobo 03-23-2008, 08:44 PM Silent hill was very scary, but manhunt should have been on that list if you had a headset and used that when playing in the dark, it was very scary
codinthepocket 03-23-2008, 09:14 PM Resident Evil scared the c**p out of me. And the second level of Resistance with the aliens that grab your neck. also the weird v****a faced creatures in Half-life who jump at your face out of nowhere. And the big creatures that jump across roofs. Ahh!
EDIT: 300!!!!! YAY!
EDIT: Not a movie reference. Number of posts for me! This. Is. Cod!
MJBarret 03-23-2008, 09:21 PM Playing Alien vs Predator as the marine was the only game to ever make me jump in my seat!
The sound of the motion-sensor coupled with the tension of not finding anything to shoot for minutes on end ... then a ****ing Alien jumps out at ya from the shadows!! O_O
TOA DOOM 03-24-2008, 02:08 AM I definitely agree with silent hill being the scariest game. The only ones i've played were two and four, and two was the only one i beat. That game scared the living s*** out of me. That radio was the most unnerving thing i have ever heard. One moment it would be completely quiet, than suddenly you'd hear the static and turn to see this faint shape coming out of the fog straight at you.....beating it was the scariest thing i've ever done....
Ala Douche 03-24-2008, 02:18 AM WHAAA? you haven't played the first one???? silent hill 1 is by far the best.
TOA DOOM 03-24-2008, 02:47 AM WHAAA? you haven't played the first one???? silent hill 1 is by far the best.
No, i haven't sadly. The only reason i even got Silent Hill 2 was because it was a gift. I'm not sure what my Uncle was thinking giving me Silent Hill though....maybe he intended to traumatize me.
Diortem 03-24-2008, 11:33 AM Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth needs to be added.
Seriously... the game is HORRIFYING... and one of the few times that the toughness of the game ADDS to the fear. (but then, when your "one mistake and your dead" has more in common with the God of War action videos then rediculous bosses... you have some leeway)
gamer1001 03-24-2008, 11:57 AM manhunt should have been on here for phycological horror, and system shock 2 didn't seem so scary

ONLY game that's been modded because a creature moved realistic enough that people who were afraid of the real world equivilent couldnt play with them there. In this game, it was the spiders.
THAT is a mark for being scary as hell.
mrpuggywuggy 03-24-2008, 02:19 PM Silent hill 1 is a very scary game, i played it with the lights off, the curtains closed and it would really scare me.
Eternal Darkness is also a pretty scary game, not quite as scary as Silent Hill but the whispers and banging noises in the mansion are very unsettling.
Caldezar 03-24-2008, 02:28 PM How did F.E.A.R. not make it on to that list!?
TOA DOOM 03-24-2008, 03:10 PM Fear wasn't really that scary for me actually....
Diortem 03-24-2008, 03:27 PM Nor I... hell halfway through, I forgot it was a horror. Extraction Point on the other hand....
RatTail 03-24-2008, 03:56 PM There were some scary parts in F.E.A.R., but you have to remember that it was also trying to balance the horror with awesome gun fights. They could have done a better job though. Still, the watchers and that f***ing little girl scared the crap out of me.
TOA DOOM 03-25-2008, 02:17 AM Meh. It still really just felt like an FPS. Maybe a slightly different kind of FPS, which attempted to be scary, but still just an FPS.
Victorsxl 03-25-2008, 03:39 AM Havent played condemmed but i have heard and read stuff so i think it would fit in this video.
mallavu399 03-25-2008, 03:40 PM I'm not really in to scary games. If I'm gonna spend my money I want to be entertained not freaked out.
crunkhippo 03-25-2008, 04:03 PM I'm not really in to scary games. If I'm gonna spend my money I want to be entertained not freaked out.
A lot of people feel that being scared is being entertained. Hence the reason scary movies can be so popular. It's all a matter of personal opinion.
Whisperkill 03-25-2008, 09:31 PM I just recently beat Condemned 2 and it was damn scary, i have never played silent hill so i cant really make a judgement there, but i do not agree about doom 3, it was somewhat scary, but only for the first few levels.
Hollowcow 03-26-2008, 12:41 PM Condemned 2 was pretty freaky at times. Especially since one of my worst fears is being mauled by a bear.
RatTail 03-26-2008, 03:50 PM I just recently beat Condemned 2 and it was damn scary, i have never played silent hill so i cant really make a judgement there, but i do not agree about doom 3, it was somewhat scary, but only for the first few levels.
I though Doom 3 was scary in the later levels, especially when you don't see a monster for a while but you can hear all of these horrible demonic sounds.
Legend 69 03-26-2008, 05:05 PM Definately Silent Hill 1 imo. The begining scene was simply amazing, where you were lured into the alley whilst the game gets slowly darker, and the WWII sirens slowly get louder, then your cornered by the monsters.
Creaps me out just thinking about it. FEAR was pretty scary as well, in fact i didnt buy it because i knew i would be too scared to play it. Shame because the game was really good.
NoneOfYourBusiness 03-26-2008, 05:45 PM Alright, you guys are going to laugh.
But when I was little I thought Myst was the scariest game ever. Even RE didnt scare me as much as Myst.
I always thought that there was some murderer stalking you, especailly when you go into the woods or a dark room....
dookintheurinal 03-26-2008, 06:07 PM Phantasmagoria from Sierra back in the Jesus days was pretty scary.
Meta666 03-26-2008, 06:14 PM Alright, you guys are going to laugh.

Haha somehow I totally understand. It was freaky that there was absolutely no one there. In your case, your imagination got the best of you :D
