View Full Version : Guitar Hero DS
Hollowcow 03-19-2008, 03:05 PM Finally the game and peripheral are revealed!
http://ds.ign.com/articles/860/860511p1.html
I gotta say this game looks impressive. I hope it ends up as good as it looks.
codinthepocket 03-19-2008, 03:16 PM This is about as ridiculous as Guitar Hero 3 on the mobile, or the battle of of the bands on the wii. It's just stupid playing guitar hero without a guitar!
EDIT: Check out the video off of Hollowcow's link. It makes the game look even worse!
EDIT: This is the vid link...

Granted the video is absolute ass. However I really like crazy experiments and this definitely falls in that category. The DS is built for crazy stuff like this. This will either suck mega hard or be a surprise hit. I am going to be optimistic for the time being.
codinthepocket 03-19-2008, 03:25 PM It's gonna be a surprise hit. I'm almost certain. Just like Assassin's Creed DS and Transformers was and will be. They will be/were terrible. But Transformers sold more than any other game for the first few weeks.

Instead of saying "surprise hit" I should have used the words "reviewed well". GH DS will sell no doubt but its quality will be a coin toss.
Abelmisi 03-19-2008, 05:38 PM I hope it doesn't suck, and the package will not be too pricey... :lipssealed:
I will definiately be looking at reviews before buying this.
gruntassasin1 03-19-2008, 05:50 PM i agree, it is going to cost alot
and if u play the other guitar heros it is going to fell akward at first.
1.the struming is going to be harder
2.and to hit the notes is going to be harder
This is just a way to make money for activision
Gunslinger 03-19-2008, 06:04 PM I've gotta say, this is what I was afraid of Activision doing. They had a really innovative idea that they could implement on consoles that can handle it, but now, they've gotten too eager in making games and now they're trying to put Guitar Hero onto things that just wont have the power to make them into the groundbreaking games that they were on PS2 and 360.
Firstly, if you look at the layout from the photos on IGN, it seems completely illogical. I mean, the streak indicator is on a completely different screen to the one that the notes are on. I mean, come on, I may be alone in this, but I like to be able to take a quick glance at how many notes I'm racking up while doing a solo. But on the DS, do this, and you will most likely lose the streak.
Another really obvious point that I just have to come out and mention is the dramatic loss in graphics. I know, it's to be expected when it comes to the DS, but again, this is something that's really going to put me off buying this game. We've all most likely played sonic or mario on the DS, and they show off if not the maximum of the DS's capabilities, at least most of it. This game, however, just looks from a single screenshot to be completely generic and... unreal. Take, for example, in one of the screenshots. The little flame that comes up when you hit a note? Look at it! It looks like it belongs on an SNES game, not the DS. Come on Activision, if this is really going to be an expansion of your hit franchise onto the handhald market, at least make it a decent attempt. You're representing your company, and to be honest, it looks completely half-baked.
Yes, I know that this is just the exclusive reveal, and that, most likely, these flaws will be addressed, but still, if you're going to reveal it at all, why reveal something this... shoddy? Take a leaf out of Bungie's book when it came to the Halo 3 Beta. Make sure it's all polished and professional before you show it to the consumer. That way, you build up a lot of hype for it.
That's just my opinion, anyway.
gruntassasin1 03-19-2008, 06:20 PM u hit that right on the money there
also u would probly get carpol tunnel syndrom from strumming with the stylis
it will probly hurt your hand more that it does on phantom hourglass for fishing!
Mr Eibmoz 03-19-2008, 07:13 PM Yay! 32kbps mono tracks ftw!
gruntassasin1 03-19-2008, 09:58 PM yea
Hollowcow 03-19-2008, 10:52 PM Elite Beat Agents had a pretty good quality for its tracks. I don't think audio quality should be the main concern here.
gruntassasin1 03-20-2008, 05:01 PM Well i didnt buy ellite beat agents, and i had a choice betwen contra 4 and that. It didnt seem that appealing to me.
I neer said it was a bad game though
Emophia 03-20-2008, 06:10 PM Elite Beat Agents had a pretty good quality for its tracks.
No it didn't, neither did any of teh Ouendan games.
And that chick has a nice ass...
Too bad that's the only nice thing about her...
Mallico 03-24-2008, 06:00 PM Interesting idea, but I don't think this will be something I'll buy.
SpudRock3t 03-24-2008, 10:34 PM I don't think audio quality should be the main concern here.
It should be a top concern actually. One thing that ticked me off about the guitar hero's is how bad of quality the tracks had. They weren't produced well at all, even the covers. For a game that focuses solely on music, it better have some decent sounding kps.
Inzader 03-24-2008, 10:54 PM God, That'll be embarrsing. Dosen't mean I won't play it in public. He he he
heldbckgmr 03-25-2008, 09:38 AM This bundle is going to charge us alot of money. Its price could be as high as freaking 50 bucks! I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for a game on the ds that will look worse than ps2 graphics.
GideonB 03-25-2008, 10:18 AM I would get it if I still played my DS. But it's guitar Hero and It's gonna be bought. It rules! Hopefully 0% on covers because they sucked!
ploogle 03-25-2008, 12:10 PM Wow. I've got to congratulate them for not saying anything about it until a few months before the release; no unnecessary over-hype.
Albar 03-25-2008, 09:07 PM I wouldn't want to look that silly outside of the privacy of my own home. Only four frets, aswell, and you can't move your hand >_> As much as I love GH, I think I'll have to give this a miss. Although, I'm enough of a whore to pay them for additional tracks with GH: Aerosmith. /sigh
Peace Bunny 04-17-2008, 07:15 PM One problem I have is that the way that picture on IGN shows it, the fret bit is on the wrong side, only good for left-handed people. Surely that is a massive over-sight?
LatinLegacy 04-17-2008, 10:28 PM I think it can now be said that the release & huge success of Rock band has caused the developers of Guitar Hero to hit the panic button. I'm also on the band wagon as to thinking that it's a dumb idea. GH does not belong in a handheld environment.

AcesHigh4895 04-27-2008, 07:16 PM Crap. I'm a lefty!
prcrew10 04-28-2008, 05:15 PM I would consider buying it if it had more than 25 songs.
Scarecrow 04-29-2008, 04:20 AM If it's got no guitar it loses half fun for me. The great thing about guitar hero has been jumping around, swinging the guitar, etc..... as well as playing the songs. Without the guitar it wouldn't feel right i guess.
codinthepocket 04-29-2008, 12:15 PM Elite Beat Agents had a pretty good quality for its tracks. I don't think audio quality should be the main concern here.
Audio isn't a problem. Turning the volume down actually helps...
I play GH3 sometimes on silent listening to the SG podcast or Fighting Talk so I don't get put off by the clunks...
Seriously! It's not a plug!
Xenuftw 04-29-2008, 12:53 PM Audio isn't a problem. Turning the volume down actually helps...
No mate, it really doesn't. Only someone as 'special' as you does something like that
I play GH3 sometimes on silent listening to the SG podcast or Fighting Talk so I don't get put off by the clunks...
Yeha and with you there are a lot of them:lipssealed:
Omega 05-03-2008, 05:13 AM IMO, it seems like its just going to be another one of those over-hyped "I'llplaythisforaweekthengetbored" games.
Not to mention, carpol tunnel much?
kdawg12 05-09-2008, 12:09 AM im not even going to consider picking this up cause i have the regular version of this game and its meant to be played there not as a handfull so yeah im keeping awar from this
Mexor13 05-11-2008, 08:03 PM I personally think that only having 4 buttons will ruin it. You can only get so hard with 4 buttons. The short list of songs and fairly high pricepoint for a handheld make me think it won't be too good.
choco 05-12-2008, 01:22 PM for $50 ya i want to get it dude that's one of the coolest thing i've seen in a long time
smokeymicpot 05-12-2008, 01:49 PM They are really milking this game. Hopefully this will not do well and they will stop for a little while
balaamsafe 05-12-2008, 03:16 PM I'llplaythisforaweekthengetbored
what he said, also, if there are people playing it on the train the
clicking could get freaking annoying, and then they's start pulling the guitar wak faces, people pull after hitting a series of hard notes, so in my opinion this game could make the publuc transport system even worse that it already is.
Masselli18 05-12-2008, 04:42 PM Yea it looks ridiculous but might be fun
Nightkiller93 05-13-2008, 02:37 PM I think this maybe the first Guitar Hero game i'm going to miss out on due to only 4 frets and I've heard the song list is pretty crap.
I don't know. It'll be an alright game, at the most, but I think it'll be more like playing an accordion. Accordion hero....
GideonB 05-18-2008, 12:26 PM This games gonna sell like mad because it's from a known franchise. I can't say what I would say about Nintendo because this isn't true but even if it's rated a 1, it will still make loads of money. It's a money making scheme by Activision. Just like when they released it on the Wii this will be exactly the same. Hopefully the music quality is actually better than GHIII mobile.
nick10234 05-18-2008, 05:56 PM how will the ds play music.
kdawg12 05-18-2008, 06:38 PM this is retarted i can see everyone buying this but still why not just play the regular guitar hero instead of the noob ds guitar hero
ploogle 05-18-2008, 08:33 PM how will the ds play music.
Maybe through a speaker? I hear that they have them built in or something...I dunno. I'll have to check the specs again.
this is retarted i can see everyone buying this but still why not just play the regular guitar hero instead of the noob ds guitar hero
'Cause it's portable. You can't take your 360, PS3, or Wii with you in the car.
'Cause it's portable. You can't take your 360, PS3, or Wii with you in the car.
Actually, you kinda can, with a car power adapter and one of those gamer screens. But that's not the point.
ploogle 05-19-2008, 10:50 PM Actually, you kinda can, with a car power adapter and one of those gamer screens. But that's not the point.
Let me rephrase: You can't conveniently play a Wii, 360, or PS3 on the go.
mipon 05-22-2008, 03:20 PM I think its a smart moce that will make Activision a hell of a lot of money. But the fact it only has four buttons will make it too easy if you ask me, but still, proboably be just right for the more casual audience that will likely pick it up.
Gilarus 05-22-2008, 05:23 PM I think it can now be said that the release & huge success of Rock band has caused the developers of Guitar Hero to hit the panic button. I'm also on the band wagon as to thinking that it's a dumb idea. GH does not belong in a handheld environment.
-LatinLegacy
The new GH has drums and a mic, I think rockbands sucess has made them go for lots of crazy ideas
Wizard 05-22-2008, 08:36 PM Four buttons?
That's disgustingly noobish. It's not Guitar Hero without that orange bastard.
DeathByWaffle 05-22-2008, 10:41 PM 'Cause it's portable. You can't take your 360, PS3, or Wii with you in the car.
I really want to be on a train or something and see someone playing it :D
caruso1268 05-22-2008, 11:48 PM How're they gna do the controller? It would have to be SUPER TINY!!! IT DOESNT MAKE SENCE!!!
Shish Kebab 05-25-2008, 11:20 AM Yay! 32kbps mono tracks ftw! Yeah I thought that as well. If the Talking on the DS sounds bad (try playing over the hedge and understanding the dialouge) then who knows what the singins gonna be like!
Johnz0r 05-25-2008, 12:50 PM get the ds mp3 player and use headphones (speakers to quiet) its good quality
Man, with hot artists like smashmouth and ok go I cannot wait for this game! I don't know why, but I feel a need to own all the guitar hero games so I'll probably pick this up, it looks fun for 5-minute-incrimant-playing anyways so I guess it's all good.
