I know it can be done because I see others have it... but for some reason, it hates me and won't let me use an animated avatar. All I'm trying to do is get an animated version of the avatar I have now.

It works when I post it... but the same URL isn't animated in my avatar

Maximum avatar width is 150px. If your is wider, the forum script will resize the first frame from the animation and use it as your avatar. You'd have to get a smaller one to use it.

how do I shrink it down and keep the animation? I just found this online so I don't know how to make it...

Thanks, but now I have a new problem. When I try to save the new avatar... all I get is a blank page. It won't transfer through no matter how many times I hit refresh.

nevermind. Got it working. Thanks man!!! The words are still easy enough to make out. Though I wonder if there's a way keep the original quality...

You can ask people who have Adobe Photoshop (or just Adobe ImageReady, because that's what used for animations) to resize it for you and compare the results. I have and use Gimp, mostly because that's the best graphic editor you can run on a Linux.
I don't think the quality will get much better, though. Gif's aren't good quality in the first place, and when you resize them there are always some strange huge pixels visible.
