3. The innovation.

As much as I loved GTA2 and the awesome multiplayer, I gotta say 3. It defined the sandbox style of gameplay and brought so much innovation to the series. Giant sprawling city that was yours to play with not to mention the cast of characters, top notch voice acting, and great story telling (for the time and the genre). One thing I didn't like was the mob family after you left them and how they'd decimate you every time you traveled into their area.

And who can forget Lazlo on the talk radio channel, a great addition to the game and added much more character than they probably thought.

San Andreas,since you get more open space(less buildings)to run away from the police when you get a lot of stars.

GTA III

Can't believe GTA:VC is so low down guys! That game is awesome. Could not get on with GTA 1,2 or 3 and thought San Andreas went to big and too ambitious but VC got it just about right - apart from the pop-up and the combat system ;O)

Vice City had Ray Liotta do the voice overs for a Miami gangster... how much better than that can you get!? Plus the soundtrack was awesome!

My favorite GTA is Vice City.

The music was fantastic, and the 80s setting was brilliant.

Vice City as well, the Miami Vice feel to the game made it brilliant. Plus i enjoyed the gang wars.

id say 3 or san andreas

I chose 3 because i played that one the most but San Andreas has much more features and was just 2 big

III is tops ... just for the NY inspired grittiness and atmosphere. Vice did the 80's vibe great justice, SA was wide open literally, but originality and grit is where it's at. I think Vice City Stories deserves a worthy mention too. Liberty City Stories, yeah, not so much.

I really like Vice City, I just worked for me. I don't know how to explain it. GTA 3 was great but I preferred Vice City.

i spent the most time with san andreas

Man, the san andreas map was huuuuge. The possibilities were endless. I hope gta4 is a lot like san andreas. To me, that isn't a bad thing.

I think vice city was best for its time.But most people play Sand so that would be there favorite.

GTA Vice City, loved it. Just loved to sit and snipe people's heads off, and get tons of police after you.
