I think when you get to the end of the game (credits or whatever) then you beat it. Some people think you must do everything you can like side-missions and things. What do you think?

I would say getting to the end constitutes "beating" the game, I personally always go for side missions.

Getting to the end is "Beating" a game for me.
"Completing" the game is getting everything.

For me, beating the game is finishing the main story line. 100%ing the game is finishing EVERYTHING from main story to side quest achivements/skill points and if your really obssed with it easter eggs.

Beating a game to me is to finish the storyline, like for a RPG, just finishing the main story line is beating it, even if you don't do all the side quests.

If you beat it, you won....

now if you really liked it, it's up to you if you want to go above and beyond....

beating a game is getting to the credits and finishing the story line or whatever. But i love to go back and play games to see all that the devs wanted me to see. plus they usally are for achievments .

Getting to the end.

In several games, there is additional content to keep coming back for. But that's optional.

You get the ending then you beat the game.
You get every skill/weapon/item/side quest then you decimated the game.

The only reason I would keep playing a game after the credits is if it had fun multiplayer.

Getting to the end is beating the game for me. Anything else is just there to enhance my enjoyment and/or to give me something to do after I've gotten to the end.

When the credits roll, you've beat the game.

In UK we use a phrase that I do not see Americans using and that is to 'clock' a game. You might say "I just clocked Halo in legendary"

Whenever I finish the main story arch, I say "I have beaten the game on X-difficulty." Then, if I feel compelled to play more until I have absolutely unlocked everything possible, ala Ace Combat 4 & 5 on the PS2, then I say "I have completed the game."

it depends on the game. in like resistance i would say getting to the end but in like lego star wars (not the complete saga edition) i would say getting a 100%

Well I usually just think it is beating the story line, I really don't think you need to do all the side missions (except in some games, when it actually adds to the story), but maybe thats just because I am lazy.

credits = beating
lack of social life = completing

for me personally beating the game on its highest difficulty is beating it. but as an actual fact goes it's much more just finishing it

If I really like the game, I complete it.

I got to the end of Assassin's Creed. I did not find 300 flags and I'm never going to. I beat the game. The flags can go do bad things to themselves. Screw completion.

Uh, finishing the story I suppose... It's way to hard to max out the achievments...
