What is the hardest game you ever played?

I know it's old school, but gosh darnit, the game is nigh impossible to beat. Section Z for the NES and Arcades, it is a side scrolling shooter in which wave after wave of unrelenting enemies come after you. If it was only that and the large bosses, it would be awesome and I would fawn over it like I do with the R-Type series. But no, on top of that you have to navigate a giant maze of alphabetical letters with the goal in mind being, to make it to Section Z. It wouldn't be so hard but you're limited to 5 lives (if you get the score up high enough), no continues, and one wrong turn puts you right at the beginning of the friggin game

On the NES, friends and I would spend all night trying to make it to the end, we pretty much had it memorized and made it to section W. But guess what, we chose the wrong path and had to start it all over   :I wish there was a super mad smiley: Needless to say, we shut off the nintendo, took out the cartridge, journeyed five miles to a public park with grills, and made a fire. Twas awesome.

And then with the advent of those arcade machines with 200+ games on it, we found our nemesis in front of us yet again. Thus began another journey of not completion, but the glory of the arcade experience; A legendary high score.

Ninja Gaiden Black, I honestly believe Tomonobu Itagaki, the guy behind the game, is either a masochist or a sadist (depending on the fact that he plays his own game or not). There were times I just wanted to throw the controller. I still want to, when I play on hard difficulty. The game was more annoying than challenging, the fact that there are spots with unlimited enemy spawns between save points makes you want to stop playing the game. I can go on, boss battles, WHY IN GOD'S NAME YOU DON'T HAVE A SAVE POINT RIGHT BEFORE THE F****** BOSS??? Makes sense if boss is not hard, doesn't if the boss is 5 times harder than normal enemies and it doesn't help that enemies spawn each time you start. Most annoying was the fact you couldn't quick reload the game from a saved file, you have to go through entire game over screen because you want to save your talisman of rebirth for boss battles. If the combat hadn't been so much fun I would have never even bothered to finish the game. I heard most of the annoyances were fixed with Sigma, too bad I don't have a PS3. I would have bought the game again just to get rid of them. I hope NG II is better in terms save points, reloads and spawns.

DMC 3 was another one, but the fact that you could replay levels to get upgrades made it much more bearable.

CoD4, the ending of the ghilllie suit level on one level above normal where you had to hold on for the helicopter to arrive. I ended up switching to normal for that level. It just got frustrating after 30 or so tries.

Rez HD, 5th level, I've yet to finish. The fact that you restart when you die is what makes it hard.

That's easy Ghosts 'n Goblins! If you don't believe me download a NES emulator and the rom for it and try it yourself. The game never ends by the way, once you beat it the female gets kidnapped again and you start all over.

hogs of wars

your pigs(soldiers)get their rank increased with coins you get when you clear the missions(you can't replay them),so when you get to one of the last missions all of your opponents are at the highest rank(I only had one on the highest rank),so you die preatty quickly when fighting with them.

Just thought of this.
GH3 on expert. Really complicated. Repetitive strain comes to mind. Its the good old button bashing. Try through the fire and the flames or devil went down to georgia on expert. Bl**dy h**l.

That's cool. Being raised on American football I know the game inside and out. I wonder what it would be like to not understand it.:grin:

This is probably newb of me but...I'm gonna have to say COD4 or Halo3 on the highest difficulty settings. There is no way I could have possibly beat Halo3 legendary without co-op.

WE brits dont understand it. Like you not understanding rugby, and the brits not understanding ice hockey.

BTW this might be post 100 for me. Not sure. i think this is 101 but if it is 100 then yay! (I thought some celebration was in order. I wont go over the top like my other post. Im just glad im not explaining my idiocy (as much) on real 100th. Im confused...)

Xenophobia on NES, first game I think I played Co-op. My friend and I played it for a solid three days and come to find out years later - thanks to the internet - I find out the game never ended, it just started redoing all the levels.

Guardian Quest for PS1... had it for years, never completed it, was fun though :D one of the first RPGs not to have random battles, as the mobs were shown in the maps, then they chased you, ofc if they caught you it went into the battle screen :P

Hardest game to complete in 100% - Assassin's Creed. Try getting all these flags. Except this, I'm gonna say Call of Duty 4 on Veteran (All Ghillied Up, Heat, No Fighting in the War Room are the most difficult levels IMO) and The Sims.

Im guessing the sims remark was sarcasm but it is actually hard and a complete timewaster...

I remember playing sims and letting them get depressed and get little sleep which meant that lost their jobs and wouldnt look for a new job, then they have a fire and try to fight it and die...

I then realised i wasted 2 days playing that game, I F***ing hate you stupid sims why did you have to die and waste my time?

I really feel better for letting that out:D

I think the hardest games I ever played were on the Commodore 64 back in the day!

Critical Mass and Miami Vice, to name just 2, left me beaten an' dejected to such a degree that I became an atheist ... 'cos there is no God man, there just isn't ... not for me ... not after what I been through :(

Ok, hogs of war was easy, and battle toads was hard but not that hard, maybe because I memorized all the levels :p And I can't think of a really hard game, but Nocturne is definitely somewhere on that list if you go for 100% completion.

Airwolf. ZX Spectrum

You have to, in the 2nd screen, shoot a path through a WATERFALL. Do you know how hard it is to shoot water enough so that it clears a path that you can get through? FECKING HARD, thats how hard!

Once you get past that you have to do a similar thing only this time you have to shoot down through a RIVER! Your guns dont even shoot down, you have to fly back and forth to angle your nose down and arg!

Anyone that says something like Viewtiful Joe dosnt know how easy they have it these days!

Uncharted, on crushing...omg.

All the enemies do is flank the hell out of you, and you cant stand in one spot for more than 2 seconds without getting a grenade thrown at you, i admire anybody who beat it on crushing.
